I live my life with no regrets. All mistakes I have made I do not regret as I have learned something from them. Like Nosferatu said you have to look to the future or rather my little addendum....live in the present and enjoy it for it is a gift.

Is There Anything in Life That You Truly Regretted?
by minimus inone thing that stands out for me is how i never went to my own grandmother's burial because, after all she was dead and during the day she died it was on a thursday night and i had 2 parts to handle so i performed them well and at the end gave the congregation, "a progress report" of how my grandmother had been doing since she was in the hospital, suffering from cancer.
that evening i told the congregation that she had died that afternoon.
many people cried at that point but later i was commended by many for not missing a meeting that evening.......

yeah I totally forgot to mention the part about yoga....
after we were talking about one of the issues my mother said that she would have to meditate on it. I said I thought meditation was bad. she said no its not. I said then why is toga bad even if they suggest to meditate. my mother went on to say some programmed response...so I gave her this little bit of info...
1. yoga is primarily for breathing, stretching etc
2. yoga can be done with or without meditation, that part is completely optional
my mother brought up some health article (in a non WT magazine she pointed out) that she read that gave pagan background. I told her thats fine but do you know how many types of yoga is out there. she said no. I told her that while I was not an expert I have attended yoga classes and read and studied up on it. I told her that yoga has many types and its primary focus is a form of exercise. she again brought up pagan background. thats when I said well what about wedding rings....or did you know that the majority of things have a pagan background....
well it left her thinking ....and we went on to something else after that.
thanks for the replies everyone...I will keep you updated on this.
dansk---umm....no she isnt going with me....I plan on having fun non-dub style

So last night me and my mother had a long 2 hour conversation on all sorts of stuff.....
mainly......truth, faith, the bible and apostacy
I asked her if the bible could be used without any other book. She of coarse said yes. I asked her why didnt she just use it instead of all the other literature. She said that while the bible interprets itself that people need the guidance of other books to show how it interprets itself. Fine I said...if that is the case then what about all the people that lived before the time of the JW's literature...say about early 1800's....are all those people wrong and going to die at armageddon? they didnt have the literature you do in order to interpret the bible and neither did her biblical examples....
she was stumped...she couldn't answer it.....
but wait there is more....I asked her if truth changed and she said no but sometimes our perception is mistaken so what we originally believe to be the truth could be found out later as false. I said that was fair. Then she said she wasnt looking for for truth because to her she has found it..so I gave her an example.
example: person wears green glasses that helps them see better but gives everything a green hue. they say because of this that the sun is green and they know that is true because thats what they see. we know that if they would take off the green glasses that they would find out that the sun is really yellow. but what if the person says well these glasses have served me and help me see why should I take them off because you say so. the moral of the story was just because you seem to have found "truth" you should still examine things if given another idea on what could be true. (my mom didnt have much to say on that example either)
so then we talked about how truth was truth no matter where the source was. I said if a person you despised had truth and proof to back it up would you not want the truth just because of who relayed the information (we got stuck on "messengers" but thats another story)? she said she didnt know. hey thats a start. so then I asked to read her something (I had the source unknown to her...so of coarse she was thinking it could be apostate material)
what I quoted her actually came from the June 22, 2000 Awake:
Name-Calling
Some people insult those who disagree with them by questioning character or motives instead of focusing on the facts. Name-calling slaps a negative, easy-to-remember label onto a person, a group, or an idea. The name-caller hopes that the label will stick. If people reject the person or the idea on the basis of the negative label instead of weighing the evidence for themselves, the name-callers strategy has worked.
So I read that and asked if she agreed with it. She really wanted to know who wrote it but I said that wasnt imprtant. I then asked if something was truth then it could stand up to opposition. She said yes. So I asked again if she agreed with what I wrote. She told me she would have to think about it and asked for a copy. I wrote it on a peice of paper for her to look over and read. then I said that I would make a deal with her. I would read any book she wantd me to read if she would do the same for me. I told her that it would not be a vulgar book and would not be filled with sexual stuff and that everything would be proven and documented in it. She asked if it would be written by someone she would consider an apostate. I said perhaps but then asked about the paragraph I read again. She said she may take me up on my offer after she has thought about it. Then it was late so we went to bed on that note.
Basically if she agrees with that paragraph she has no reason not to read CoC (which is what I am going to have her read if my offer is taken).......but if she doesnt agree with it then I get the pleasure of telling and showing her it came from an Awake. Either way I think it will have some bearing.
Wish me luck......

the bible....literal or just basic common sense values?
by SpiceItUp ini've been annoying most of my friends lately with all sorts of bible and religion etc discussion and am getting all sorts of intersting viewpoints.. one was that the bible was only intended to be a guide with simple rules to follow.
such as the ten commandments, the 7 deadly sins and the fruits of the spirit.. i have to agree that if you were to follow such basic principles (which would hopefully be common sense) life should fall into place.. not to mention when you try to take the bible literally it should be just cause for us to start stoning people, giving up sacrafices as well as poligamy.. of coarse my friend also believes the bible was inspired by god and the contradictions he admits are in it are due to imperfect men putting down there own perspective on things.
that i don't agree with but the basic principles i think should be followed.. any thoughts?

People cannot be controlled without their permission

Brummie-- I agree but disagree....
No they didnt ask for someone to come to their door (or maybe they did...prayer etc) but lots of times I think dubs are people that like everything all wrapped up in a pretty box and explained to them. they don't want to do the research themselves and sometimes its just easier to go with something already arranged than doing the hard work themselves. Just a thought.....I think the children raised in it are the ones I have trouble saying they gave permission...but they also want to desperately please their parents so that is one form or control that is chosen weather it be consciously or subconsciously.
good thread.

saving those who don't need to be saved
by SpiceItUp intalking with a friend last night we got into bible god etc and he said something that made alot of sense.. he said "the baptists screw up though.
they go to third world countries to save those people.
but if its written that those who don't know god will be judged at armageddon and not automatically die, why do you need to save someone who doesnt know god?

Gopher---exactly...another person suggested that individuals should not be based on one dor-to-door presentatoin. After all as imperfect humans what if that presentation was poorly done. Should that person be judged and destined to be destoyed on a poor presentation? That would not indicate a fair god.
A Pad----can you please explain what point you are trying to make. It doesn't seem relevant to me but maybe I'm not thinking about it in the right perspective. Thanks.
latte---yes...Im thinking of trying it with my parents after more research and the bible to back me up. See what they say. Then again there are so many contradictions in the bible ... and illogical parts such as what you mentioned.

Thanks guys.
It really is nice to be ok with not having all the answers. I always thought that if i quit believing one thing then I would have to find something else to believe in immediately and thats not the way life has to be. I feel good even with those unknowns.

Been here for quite a while spewing out my thoughts, opinions and observations on many things and have reached a transition time in my life.
I am not the person I was when I started here nor even 2 months ago. My growth has been intense and impounded upon my heart like I never thought it could be.
Many years ago I was very scared. i was scared of religion, god, satan and all the judgements and restaints that came along with them. I would even comment to people that "I can't deal with religion cause I'm too screwed up in the head at this point in my life and it will be years before I will even want to broach that subject." Well I was right about it taking years but my time has finally come.
Along with that I have lots of changes and positive things in my life. People care about me in ways that I many moons ago never thought I deserved. I have received happiness in such a way that if denied now my heart would indeed break. Some know of these things in my life and in due time I will be able to share them with all of you when they are in place.
Happy times are ahead. Yes there will be the daily battles that I wll have to overcome but I will have help and support as well as my personl reserve not to let them get me down.
I have come to terms with my past and now look forward to the future and in reaching those long forgotten stars that always seemed unattainable.
I have delved into religion and spirituality with a positive attitude and fresh view that I never had with Witness chains holding me back.
I am at the crossroads of my spiritual well being and my journey is just beginning. And even if I never have all the answers thats ok too. Sometimes I really do believe that its the journey thats more important than the destination.
Yes...life is indeed good and I wish everyone the same.
