  everything else, except nuclear and tidal, is solar power too, Hydro / dams, wind, wave, coal, oil, --- all stored solar energy.

  to all you young and old alike what would you have as a farewell party from this earth , would you party with friends months before or would you go out quietly and rather have input into the wake.

  i have heard of these duck hunters who put their ashes in shotgun shells.

  No wt propaganda at my funeral, not having a glory seeking elder shine and, stealing the show. have seen celebrations of life in the neighborhood, live music, passing photos, viewing videos, having food, a drink. earth burial in an already ready casket. or?

  2017 Conventions

  in view of the terrorist attacks going on in the world right now, as well as the high degree of animosity towards jehovah's witnesses as a result of their shuning practices, etc., i think it would be wise for the wts to discontinue meeting for large conventions and use live streaming and broadcasts instead.

  even with the increased security measures being put in place this year, it would not be surprising if some incidents take place.

  has anyone heard any talk in this regard?.

  wt/jw are quite safe from extremist attacks. how close is "theocratic order" actually to sharia law? may be they are searching for bull horns ? banners?

  Just because something is old, does not mean it is "Special" or "Sacred" or "Valuable"

  a thought occurred to me that simply because something is old does not make it valuable or worthy of sacred reverence.. the bible is held up as sacred just because it is "old" and apparently preserved.. but, that does not make sense.

  if in thousands of years someone finds a notebook of my scribbles or sketches that i threw away, that doesn't elevate them to "valuable status" simply because they survived.

  they were thrown away because they were worthless.. or if an archaeologist finds an ancient broken bit of pottery that was used for garbage disposal, it doesn't change its status from what it once was - a garbage bin.. i guess what i am trying to ask is, why is it that we as humans give value to writings just because they are old?.

  at an assembly they said about the 1975 timeline: "we regret to have published that" . not an apology really, but someone, at another assembly said" what should we apologize for? the millions of extra hours, new brothers we have because of it?

  If wt has real regrets, they will be still to come.

  Uninvited...again...

  so a week or so ago we received an invitation for a jw friend's wedding anniversary party in the mail.it was addressed to 'the andersen family' (and not just mrs. andersen & baby andersen) which was pleasant of course, but not a huge surprise given the type of person who said friend is.. however, i already prepared myself to be uninvited after all.

  some time ago, there was a congregation farewell party/get-together.to my surprise, i was invited too!

  an elder specifically came over to my house to tell me.then some weeks later, he visited again, being terribly sorry but the invitation was revoked as the congregation got concerned over my possible presence.. with that debacle in mind, i wasn't surprised to receive a message from my friend 'hey are you at home?

  The org and going beyond what is written

  hello there.. my father just claimed that the good thing about being a witness was how they just let the bible interpret itself.

  now i know the irony in this statement, but i dont know what to show him that he just cant discard with some ignorant excuse.

  any ideas?

  Won't a jw use the overlapping generation thing to answer that?

  caria, thank you for caring! well, they could not, for the timing of the departure of the anointed is fixed by the fact that they have to be gone and in heaven ahead of the Great Tribulation / battle in which they participate as immortal warriors. The fact that the anointed are gone from the Earth before the GT contradicts Jesus' words, (and the history of the first century) that the anointed do survive the destruction!

  The overlapping only makes the generation longer. the wt anointed generation is not too long, but too short,*** too short by the duration of the GT and Armageddon, even the start of paradise! *** I started a topic with that title.

  wt is going beyond what is written when they call the generation the "anointed". the required overlap is just one more added proof that wt is wrong.
