@Captain Blithering: I agree, might be hard to bring up before the convention, but we could certainly discuss it later that evening, right? We are supposed to review the day's program as a family. I will try to use Blondie's point that at least Paul was specific. This could be my best and last convention ever...

Slowly Awakening at the DC 2013
by breakfast of champions inso after the district convention was over, i asked my wife what her overall impression was.
she said, "maybe something has changed, or maybe it's your influence that i see things differently now, but a lot of those talks sounded more threatening than anything.
not loving, not really hopeful, just threatening.

So what kind of questions/points could I make on the way over to get her in the right frame of mind, more receptive to post convention discussions? She forced me to go to an English speaking convention this year (probably in an attempt to save me) but I want to try to use it to my advantage. Only attending Saturday and Sunday.

Excellent. The truth is the truth, right? It might hurt, but in the end, you have to be able to live with yourself. I think your post will inspire more of the lurkers to get off the fence. Thanks for being brave.

So, Whats the real reason JWs are no concessions open at the DC and are discouraged from supporting nearby vendors?
by BU2B inso ever since they discontinues the food service at the assemblies and dcs, jws have been "lovingly encouraged" to pack a light lunch to eat.
the secretary at the hall that i am held hostage in said during the service meeting that even a sub would be too heavy to eat, and that a light salad was the best option.
what do you fine people think is the real reason why, in the absence of food service, jws are told to not leave the building at lunch?

jgnat said: Then, paradoxically, everyone eats their own meal (no sharing).
Not only do most people not share their food, I don't recall much social interaction going on either. We were encouraged to get to know everyone around us. Right. It was mostly: eat in silence and then walk, or eat in silence and then sleep. So refreshing!

IS YOUR TEACHING UP-TO-DATE? - (WT Study Article for June 3-9, 2013)
by Oubliette inin the watchtower study article for last week, june 3rd - 9th, 2013, the congregation was asked the question, "is your teaching up-to-date?".
there was a box on the top of page 9 that asked three questions allowing everyone to test themselves and find out if they had "up-to-date" and "accurate knowledge" in keeping with the "the ever-increasing light" as revealed through the pages of the watchtower magazine and related publications.
now at first blush this all sounds really good, but is it?

Very well put.I though something smelled a bit off with that comparison to Apollos. To bad the WT can't write as clearly as you do! But maybe that is part of the plan. plan.

Awkward moment at the WT study today
by FadeToBlack inwhen we got to paragraphs 10,11 with the reference to the box at the top of the page - is your teaching up-to-date?
the conductor asked for an explanation of what the current 'bible truth' was.
for the first one, 'this generation (matt 24:34) absolutely nobody raised their hand!

Perhaps with regard to point # 2 (sheep and goats) someone could clear up the difference (if any) between separating and judging. It seems like in the 4/13 WT separating=judging. They occur at the same time. The 95 Wt seems to not use the word separating at all. Mostly judgment. So maybe, I am just out of touch. I must be holding the old view (pre 95) that the separating work had been going on since 1914 and the judgement would take place at the big A. No wonder I no longer have Jehovah' blessings. I am not keeping up with the chariot. I feel a gnashing of teeth coming on...

OK. I might have to amend my last statement after having actually read the October 95 Wt article cited. Perhaps the only significant difference is when the judging takes place - after the great tribulation breaks out which is intitiated by the UN turning against Babylon the great. I will try to reread both explanations again -hope my head doesn't explode!

Oubliette said: How does anything in the July 15, 2013 WT change any of the three points in the box at the top of the page in last week's Study Article?
As an example look at point #2 (Separating of the sheeps from the goats). Compare that with paragraph 11 in the July WT study article on page 6.

My apologies for the poor wording in the original description. I was not implying that the generation thing had also changed. Just that we had the awkward silence (on the generation) question and then we progressed to the next 2 points with old/new light.
The question for paragraph 8 was so tempting, but I couldn't bring myself to do it.
8: Briefly share a spiritual gem that you discovered in your Bible reading.
All of the answers were wt-approved. I wouldn't be suprised if the ones chosen to answer that were pre-selected. It just seems too risky.
We also had 1 paragraph where an older brother was going on about how much he read the bible but got cut-off when he paused to take a breath. But even without the microphone he kept on going for another 2 minutes. It was hilarious (if that is possible at he kh)...
