  The social, emotional and intellectual investment of members is the glue that will hold this organisation together for some time to come yet. I don't think anyone is forecasting some imminent implosion but the people aspect of this will outweigh all but the most catastrophic commercial and theological failures and I think there will still be an sizeable religion in 40/50 years time.

  Great article. Just one question - can you explain where the estimate of 1200 deaths per year comes from? In the context of 8,000,000 Witnesses it's not a huge number but one that I would be interested to know how you reach.

  i have seen a few comments about this week's meeting.. was there actually a part that specified an actual per-publisher amount that should be donated regularly?.

  can this be confirmed please?.

  i truly cant believe just how brazen the society seems to be getting - and how desperate they are!.

  As has been pointed out, there have been donation requests based around per head calculations for years. The global assistance programme is just a new name for old stuff - probably due to some creative account requirements that the org has found to hide money more easily.

  Not only that but circuit assemblies and regional conventions have always had a congregation donation element to them, again on a per capita basis.

  It's a neat way to ensure and forecast a baseline income.

  What is interesting is the difference in sums being asked. Someone somewhere will have done a calculation but I guess we will never know the detail of the parameters used.

  the 2018 memorial will be held on saturday, march 31, 2018.. the 2019 memorial will be held on friday, april 19, 2019..

  It will be so much easier when all the talks are video presetations.

  Prepare yourselves for the return of the book study group. Get rid of the halls and meet as little groups to watch videos or even log into a virtual meeting service that tracks and reports what talks you have watched.

  Can the lifesaving, worldwide preaching work be considered either lifesaving or worldwide when billions of the world's population have slim to no chance of hearing it and when it impossible for JW growth to keep pace with global population growth?
