What things are pagan in origin?
by roybatty ini read someone's commment about the pagan origins of pretzels, which i didn't know.
i'd like to share with my kids other items or customs that are also pagan in origin, like wedding rings and the wedding cake.
i want them to see that christmas isn't the only tradition with roots in pagan religion that have changed meaning over the years.. any others out there?

Concept of There Being A God
by Undecided inis it possible for the human mind to really understand what god is?.
think about all those trillions of centries that god was alone, with no need for a language, as there were no objects to name, no one to converse with, nothing to do.
there were no subjects to hate and kill, no one to love and bless, no satan opposer to battle, sort of like being dead.

I haven’t struggled too much with the idea of whether or not there is a God but have instead debated in my mind if there exists an Almighty, omnipotent Being. Just looking around and wondering how such a Being could allow such wickedness to go on for so long (and never receiving a good answer even when I was a JW) has lead me to believe that there is a god who wants good to happen but also an equally powerful being who wants evil to prevail. I’ve heard all the “well God allows evil to exist because….blah blah blah..” and I have even given public talks on the issue of “universal sovereignty.” I personally can’t imagine any intelligent being having a hard time accepting God’s answer to Satan in which He would have said “Look Satan, you’re wrong and now I’m going to take you out for screwing with my kids.” If God was so concerned about what angels and humans would think, then why doesn’t He care enough to explain why billions of people have suffered and died throughout history. And not just died but I mean suffered big time. I just can’t picture a loving God watching 6-million Jews killed by the Nazis. I can’t imagine an all powerful God sitting by while millions of Cambodians are slaughtered. Why would a loving God sit by and watch Stalin kill his own people?
Believing that God isn’t all powerful has actually made me more aware that each of us need to do something to fight the evils in the world. That God isn’t able to fix them alone. Instead, he uses us just as the being that wants evil to prevail uses his tools.

Here in the States the word "randy" refers to someone's name. Unlike in the UK where...well, I guess it could just as well describe a person.
I found this out when someone from the UK was visiting the company i work for and I introduced her to the company's owner who's name was Randy. Quite a laugh! -

I actually like seeing the Daily Text posted here. It's a daily reminder of my I left. Sometimes I forget how self-righteous the Society is. Thanks for the reminders YoYo.

Excellent summary. Elders school, even more boring then the circuit assembly. I use to wait for this earth-shaking revelations about "the truth" only to be disappointed. One thing I did learn from attending the elders school, it's just a business. I felt like I was at some business seminar learning the latest managerial techniques.

If you're asking if this is a df'ing offense, the answer is yes. One of the last elder meetings that I attended with the CO specifically mentioned that "cyber sex" was a serious offense. Of course, the porno has always been. Then again, as other posters said, if you crying in front of the elders and tell them that it was a momentary weakness, you'll get off the hook. Want to be really bad? If you're "in" with the elders, they'll want to find someone else to blame. While still blaming yourself also tell them that you're wife hasn't been providing the "marital due." Sisters in the congregation always get the shaft.

LOTR is an awesome movie, I'm going to seeing it again this weekend. However, I get so sick of hearing that "George Lucas ripped off....". Geez, first he ripped of that Japanese movie "The Seven Samuri" and now he ripped off "LOTR." I mean, common, the story of a small band of good guys fighting against a stronger group of bad dudes who are trying to destroy an innocent group of people goes back to the story of Moses versus Pharoh. Maybe all of these guys ripped off Moses! Hey, Moses better find a good lawyer.

I don't know why but the thought of a mule on fire cracks me up.

>>There is no way for humans to pinpoint the exact day and hour.<<
Someone forgot to tell Russell and Rutherford this. Oh wait, Franz liked the Prediction Game to didn't he?
