I really enjoy Cornwell's books. I 've read the Arthur series (Warlord Chronicles), the Grail Quest series, and the Warrior Chtonicles (Last Kingdom). This the led me to Sarum by Edward Rutheruord and then his book London. Both highly recommended in that order. I am currently reading Russka also by Rutherfurd.

Entertainment: What's everybody reading or into right now?
by schnell ini picked up bernard cornwell's the pagan lord at the library.
historical fiction set in england after the death of alfred the great.
i'm loving it, especially the between-the-lines wit and sense of timing in cornwell's writing, and the complete badassery of the protagonist.

At the time when Moses (???) wrote all that nonsense the two main instruments of death among the Israelites were swords snd snake. They both end up in the creation account playint a pivotal role in mankind's death.
Evidently it never occured to these desert dwellers that swords had not yet been invented at the dawn of man's creation. Hence the inclusion of a sword in the story.
I find it highly unlikely that Eve told Adam she had been talking with a snake and that Adam found this acceptable and made no investigation.

Welcome to the forum A Believer. You said
I have been for the last couple weeks been studying religion. I've learned the only ones who today do what the Bible says to is JW. Thier the only who, as the bible puts it, preaches the good news in all the land
You stated that only the religion of jehovah's witnesses preach the good news. You are completely incorrect. The religion does not preach anything. A number of years back both the religion and the Watchtower corporation stepped back from and distanced themselves from the preaching work. They did this to deny legal liability.
According to the current doctrinal teachings of Geoff, Sam, Mark, Gerrit, Stephen, Tony, and David, aka the governing body of jehovah's witnesses, the preaching work is carried out by anyone and everyone who reads the bible and goes out and preaches. Any preaching work carried out by adherents of the faith of jehovah's witnesses has been described by these seven men as one's "own personal ministry," i.e. not sanctioned by the church.
Ironically this makes the church of jehovah's witnesses not a follower of Christ's commands and therefore not a follower of the Bible when it comes to preaching the gospel.

LoisLane looking for Superman
. . . Is this on topic or off? This question: Was God then, the first psychopath?Rather than comment perhaps we should let the bible speak. Who killed more people, god or Satan?

In mainstream Christianty and JW theology the attempted murder of Jesus as a child and the ultimate death of Jesus has always been attributed to the outworkings of Satan. However Satan had no motive and nothing to gain from orchestrating the events that led to the death of Jesus.
Consider (based on objective JW theology) the following arguments:
Satan had everything to gain by protecting Jesus both in infancy and in adulthood.
- If Satan protected Jesus then their would be no ransom sacrifice, no resurrection, no new system, no armageddon.
- Further the prophecies of Jesus would have turned out to be false.
- God would have been revealed to have been a liar.
- Satan would still be the ruler of the world and he would not have been cast down.
- God's kingdom would have been brought to nought.
- There would be no fulfillment of the holy writings in the old testament.
- The would be no new testament.
- The so-called universal issue would have been won in favor of Satan himself.
Jesus would still be alive today unless he died of an accident. The bible actually contains no evidence that Satan played a part in the death of Jesus. There is no charge, no trial, no impartial verdict. JWs claim Jesus was subjected to an unfair and unlawful trial. However Satan was judged and condemned with no trial.
In the garden of Eden Satan was judged guilty of killing Jesus, an event of which had not happened. Satan was judged and sentenced to death before he had committed the alleged murder. Besides this the actual alleged murder victim was with both god and Satan and the other angels in heaven. He could have spoken up and testified that he had not been murdered or killed.
To prove god a liar and a false accuser all Satan had to do was protect Jesus life while he was on Earth. This then raises the question "Who actually had motive to kill Jesus and who gained from his death?"

How many times jehovah is said in a prayer
by Normalfulla inso there was this particular elder in my hall who when giving a prayer would say "jehovah" waaaay to much it was ridiculous, we ended up having a count every time he gave prayer, most of the time it was 15-18 but once he topped 20, if u say it out loud 20 times you'll see how weird it is, like when do you ever in a conversation say someone's name that many times in 2 or so minutes,!

I remember one prayer many years ago and it went a little something like this:
"Jehovah God our great grand father in the heavens, we thank you, Jehovah, for the blessings you give to us, Jehovah, each day, Jehovah. Jehovah, we would also like to ask that you, Jehovah, help our congregation, Jehovah, to move ahead, Jehovah, with the preaching work, Jehovah, in our territory, Jehovah. Jehovah, we would also, Jehovah, like to ask, Jehovah, that you, Jehovah . . . "
And on, jehovah, and on, jehovah, it went, jehovah, until the killer in the end:
" . . . This we pray, Jehovah, to you, Jehovah, in the name of your son, Jehovah . . ."
And then the brother stepped off the platform and took his seat while the congregation stood silently, with their heads bowed and their eyes closed, while waiting for an Amen that never came.
I liked the great grand father reference. I assume it was three words and not "great-grandfather" but then again the brother did call jehovah's son jehovah.
My all time favorite prayer was during a non-JW relatives funeral. A lot of JWs were there including family and numerous elders. My deceased relative had made their own funeral arrangements and the service was presided over by a JW elder (family member). At the end another family member, non JW, after making a short speech, asked everyone to "bow our heads in prayer to jehovah" and then it happened. A female minister from a 'pagan' church stepped to the podium while everyone, including elders and uber JWs, had their heads bowed, and offered the prayer. Payback's a bitch.

What age were you when you were counted as a publisher?
by OrphanCrow inthe wts has always included minors and adults in the same categories - publisher and baptized.. i am interested in knowing how many minors, approximately, are included in the publisher count.
and, at what age a person started publishing.
what age was the youngest publisher reported?.

My JW baptism in the mid 1980s was quite strange and unique. I was a child and had not yet been approved as a publisher. In fact no announcement was ever made in my entire life that "so-and-so is now an unbaptized publisher."
To complicate matters I had already previously been baptized as a child into my mother's religion and have actually never renounced this.

Pornography Question
by IMHO inwhy is it ok to look at naked pictures/videos of your wife/husband but porn if you look at another man/woman naked?.
if you happen to divorce your spouse is it then pornography if you look at naked/sex videos/pictures of them?.
-
jwleaks
The word "pornography" starts with the letter "p" the same as the word "pagan." Both words also contain the letter "g" as the middle letter. This letter "g" is also the first letter in the title "god" as well as "governing body" and "guardians of doctrine." Hence the Bible condemns all things pagan and all forms of pornography.
Are we not grateful that in the last days of this system of things god has revealed the us these gems of Bible truths to lead us on the right path towards everlasting life.

Great Tribulation and Trump
by TakeOffTheCrown inplease, let's discuss this subject without attacking one another.. it appears that trump has won a victory that no one expected.
is it possible that trump may play a part in the great tribulation?.
there are some who believe trump is one of the most unqualified of men to ever be elected president of the united states.

scratchme1010 - There isn't such thing as the great tribulation.
Please no spoilers. I like the irony of watching all the JWs slowly growing old and slowly dying off without ever seeing the end, all the while proclaiming everything from the pyramids of Giza to WW1 and on to Trump as somehow fitting into their interpretation of the old testament and new testament.
