One missing failed prophecy was the promise that the end would come before the passing of the 1914 generation.

"The messiah" was to come from the "line of David" right??
by stuckinarut2 ina huge realization hit me the other day while listening to a podcast that discussed the "lineage of jesus".. according to the bible, "the messiah" was to come through king davids lineage.
but, if you wade through the entire chapter of matthew that lists "son of ...son of...son of...etc", it becomes obvious that jesus did not come through davids line at all!.
in fact, that lineage lists jospeh (mary's husband) as being in davids line.

DrearyWeather: In modern days, we have surrogate mothers who bears a child on behalf of another woman, from her own egg fertilized by the other woman's partner/husband, without any sexual intercourse. Would you call a surrogate mother an adulteress or a whore?
Interestingly, Watchtower would indeed consider the practice of surrogate insemination "adultery" or "fornication". This as per the 1993 Awake 3/8, p26-27:
Does surrogate motherhood honor marriage and keep the marriage bed undefiled? Simply put, no. Traditional surrogacy requires the insemination of the woman by donor sperm. The Bible’s view may be found at Leviticus 18:20, which says: “You must not give your emission as semen to the wife of your associate to become unclean by it.” There is no Biblical basis for making a distinction between insemination by intercourse and insemination artificially by donor implantation. Therefore, in either case, fornication or adultery is committed when insemination is accomplished by a male other than the woman’s legal husband.

Why do Jehovah's Witness members incriminate themselves in judicial meeting?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inwhy do jehovah's witness members incriminate themselves to any judicial process?
how can three elders conduct a judicial meeting with a 15-year-old teenage girl who supposedly was rumored to fornicate, took drugs or was drunk from drinking alcohol?
can she or the parents refuse to answer any questions?.

Why does WT rarely reference creationist scientist?
by Sanchy inin watching the latest video in the series "was it designed?
" at tv-dot-jw-dot-org, i got to wondering why is it that watchtower hardly references scientist that are creationist.
i know its only a minority from that group, but there are enough out there for them to reference from.

In watching the latest video in the series "Was it designed?" at tv-dot-jw-dot-org, I got to wondering why is it that Watchtower hardly references scientist that are creationist. I know its only a minority from that group, but there are enough out there for them to reference from.
Take for instance the video mentioned above. It presents the structure of the Seahorse's tail in an attempt to demonstrate that it is too complex and it's "design" too clever to have been a result of evolution. The video then proceeds to quote an engineering professor that appears to agree in that nature makes things just right. The professor's name is Ross Hatton, and a quick google search of his name reveals that he is, as Watchtowers calls it, "an evolutionist".
As another example, the authors of the brochure "The Origin of Life - 5 Questions worth Asking" reference quotes from various scientist in attempting to bring credibility to their argument, yet none of them are creationist, as the brochure itself awkwardly admits at each asterisk note.
Are there any quotes that you know of in recent WT literature that reference scientist that believe in creation?

What changes would stabilize JW membership?
by StarryNight9 ini've seen many topics about how things are changing or might be changing in jw doctrine/culture.
some have extrapolated how those changes would result in declining jw membership.
i'm curious to know what changes others think would stabilize those numbers.

-Slowly let go of 1914 doctrine
-Make blood transfusions a conscience issue
-Make 144k a figurative number
-Stop mandating that all publishers turn in a monthly field service slip
-Stop shunning disassociated individuals
-Make celebrations like birthdays or patriotic holidays a conscience matter
-Get rid of the 2 witness rule when it comes to child abuse
-Create a charity arm to become more like a mainstream christian religion

EU Court Ruling Against WT on Data-Protection
by cofty intoday's london times reports on the july ruling of the eu court that forces the organisation country to comply with data protection.. the action originated in finland but the ruling will affect every eu country.
the cult tried unsuccessfully to argue that the notes taken by jws in the door-to-door work were personal and not accessed by the congregation.
the court ruled that they are acting under the auspices of the congregation and therefore they must comply with data-protection laws.. keeping lists of do-not-calls also falls under this ruling.. why does the cult always feel that it is above the law?.

They not formally handed over to the elders. That’s what I meant (and what I said)
You used the word "access" and applied your own definition. Just wanted to clarify that personal notes are indeed "accessed" (aka looked at, used) by fellow congregation members, including elders, when organizing the territory data.
In regards to the statement "they are not formally handed over to elders", this is also not completely true. Perhaps in Europe it is a practice that WT is trying to discontinue in light of this new law/litigation, but in much of the world it has been and continues to be common practice for publishers to turn in registry and householder notes so as to be archived with the territory slips.

Doubter: Personal House to House notes are not accessed by anyone other than the individual publisher. What I mean by “accessed” is that they are not handed over to the elders.
This is not true. Notes taken are routinely shared within service group members when canvassing territories, including elders.
