I cut and pasted two small sections of the broadcast in the following video clip. In the first 20 seconds he describes how truth is concrete and how Jehovah is the "revealer of truth", yet on the second half of the clip he explains how our understanding of truth in modern times is fluid and imperfect.

If this is the case, why can't we say Catholics are not in the process of also "understanding truth"? What about Protestants, Muslims and Buddhists? Can't they just be in the process of understanding truth too? Why does only the governing body have the right to be "imperfect" and "progressive" in their understanding of truth?

how many witnesses are aware that technically, according to watchtower policy, they can if they wish too...associate with dissociated and disfellowshipped relatives.

for all those who are dissociated or disfellowshipped, please share this with your relatives who are currently shunning you.

there is nothing the elders can do as long as they are not discussing spiritual matters.

Unshackle, this loophole and others do exist, but it seems to me that only ex-elders would be able to take advantage of them, since only they (in theory) would know what the elder book says or doesn't say.

If someone that was never an elder were to start using quotes from the elder book, I suspect they'd still find reasons to charge said person with other sins such as "brazen conduct" mentioned by Stephan in his comment above.

I myself, as an ex-elder, took advantage of the "must admonish once and twice BEFORE setting up a JC" loophole to get my judicial committee cancelled. You can find the LINK HERE.

End of world preachers

when it comes to predicting when the world will end, false prophets/preachers always find a way to say that it's going to end sometime during their lifetime.

charles russell, joseph rutherford, fred franz, harold camping, current gb members and so many others have done this.

why is it they never say something like "the world will end in eight hundred years according to the bible"?

I agree with you 100% I think doomsday cults take advantage of the natural fear we humans have of what tomorrow will bring. It seems to me that we humans naturally have the tendency to believe that "things were better in the past" and thus we assume things (in general) just perpetually continue to "get worst".

Cult preachers usually tap into this fear by preaching their doomsday message. "The world is ending any day now, we know the secret to survive". That's why some of the biggest growth JWs have experienced happened in the years prior to 1925 and 1975, years JWs expected the end to come. Thing with JWs is that once you are in, it's hard to get out.

LoveUnihateExams: It contained both the 1995 generation change article and an article on child abuse that basically stated that if a molester is asked by the elders about allegations and he denies them, nothing could be done about it

Oh my God!! I had read the generation articles on that magazine a few times, but never the child abuse allegation one. Talk about a terrible issue of the Watchtower! This paragraph says it all:

If the accusation is denied, the elders should explain to the accuser that nothing more can be done in a judicial way. And the congregation will continue to view the one accused as an innocent person. The Bible says that there must be two or three witnesses before judicial action can be taken. (2 Corinthians 13:1; 1 Timothy 5:19) Even if more than one person “remembers” abuse by the same individual, the nature of these recalls is just too uncertain to base judicial decisions on them without other supporting evidence. This does not mean that such “memories” are viewed as false (or that they are viewed as true). But Bible principles must be followed in establishing a matter judicially.

Anyways, not to hijack the thread, I'm a newbie myself Herelgo, having only started to fade earlier this year. I'm a born-in, 1984. Parents were and continue to be really "spiritual". I was baptized 1995 at the tender age of 10. Served as elder from late 2010 till early 2016 when I stepped down due to doubts.

As others here, my doubts involved various points, the biggest point at first being how a supposed merciful and loving God could A) Allow his creation to suffer for thousands of years just to prove a point B) Destroy billions of his children because they didn't worship as Jehovah's Witnesses commanded them to.

Ran into CoC online and the rest is history.

Question: Can't You Just Ignore A Judicial Committee?

one thing i've never understood is judicial committees.

yes, i understand it's held to see if elders should go through with the disfellowshipping process.

but why give them all the power?

No, she can't just ignore the JC since the elder's book instructs them can go ahead and carry out the proceedings even without the accused present. Once a JC is formed it's almost impossible to get it cancelled, however, here are some options:

-There is a loophole in the elder book that says that if after various attempts they can't reach the person in question to arrange the judicial committee date, they should just leave the matter pending. So one might attempt going into hiding for a few months, not answering any calls, and hoping the elders would just forget. If your cousin has already spoken to the elders, then it's too late for this method.

-If there was only one witness to her alleged smoking, she can deny the accusation and the elder's would not be able to proceed with a JC so long as they don't have 2 witnesses nor a confession.

-If she doesn't want to get DF, she can go into the meeting, put some pepper spray in her eyes, shed a few tears, tell the elders that she's so embarrassed that she "hurt her relationship with Jehovah by smoking", that she only smoked a few of them in a moment of weakness, and that she never ever ever wants to hurt Jehovah again like that. Maybe they'd only privately reprove her in this situation.
