  i know that i either read this article or read about this article--possibly here--but there is still no search capability and i haven't been able to locate it.. or....did i just confuse this with something else?

  Thanks for the suggestions. I don't have the Watchtower CD, and I generally have utilized the search function here to verify these things, but since the search doesn't exist right now I'm stuck. Those older ones you mentioned, Blondie, are probably what I'm looking for. I know that they were quite old, and the Society has, of course, changed their stance on this.

  The only info I could pull up through Google is their latest article on this, which was published in 2000, stating that investing in the stock market was NOT gambling, although I know the earlier ones condemned investing as gambling. Total reversal on this....as usual.

  You've given me some leads, though, and I appreciate it. Hopefully, someone will have saved the articles somewhere.

  JWs are the smartest people on earth. Well, of course, they are. As one JW poster brought out on another board, the Watchtower is written at the college level (excuse me while I choke on my laughter).

  JWs are also the cleanest AND the happiest people on earth. Especially when they cover up any acts of gross perversion within the congregations. If you don't know about it and it isn't openly dealt with, it doesn't exist.

  And, all of those JWs who are on anti-depressants are merely "sighing" over the evils in the world....other than that, they are just blissfully HAPPY!!! How could they be otherwise? And, if they are NOT happy....well, obviously, they just aren't reading the publications enough.

  People's Obsessions over Yizuman's Single Mistake

  it's amazing that after one panicked post i made in december that was considered a mistake after getting flamed for it and i retracted my post and apologized for it.

  people have chided me for making this mistake and i learned my lesson.. now people are obsessed with my one single mistake asking for financial help which i do not do anymore.

  why are you negative people obsessesed with my one single mistake????

  my son is unable to work and he hasn't been able to get SSI although for years he's paid into it.

  Bikerchic, tell your son to contact a lawyer who deals with disability cases. My husband is on disability....finally....but until we got a lawyer, we were getting nowhere fast.

  My husband has always had severe anxiety problems, and he was constantly losing jobs because of this, but he kept trying. He eventually got to the point where he was almost unable to function. He tried to work through an agency because he could no longer deal with face-to-face interviews. In fact, I would have to fill out the employment applications for him, since he became too anxious to cope even with that.

  We applied for SSI disability, but were turned down....so we kept trying to somehow get him into a job that he could handle. We spent 5 years trying to do this, and getting deeper in debt because of the loss of his income.

  We finally saw an ad for a lawyer who deals with disability cases, and after reviewing things, he accepted our case on a contingency basis, with his fee dependent on whether or not my husband succeeded in his disability claim.

  It still took over a year from that point to get things resolved, but having a lawyer made all the difference. He knew exactly what needed to be done and what kinds of documentation and tests were necessary to prove our claim.

  JW growth

  there has been much discussion here regarding the growth rate of the jws.

  i thought i would put up some numbers that show the long term trends.

  first of all, i would like to state that there was surprisingly little growth under rutherford.

  Interesting statistics, Larc. Considering the fact, also, that a good portion of that growth could be explained by internal growth (i.e. children of JWs getting baptized), then its significance dwindles even more.

  This situation sounds very similar to the one experienced by us when my mother became ill and subsequently died.

  She suffered a severe stroke, and spent the last 18 months of her life in a nursing home, requiring constant care. None of her brothers or sisters could bother to visit her.

  After her death, we did have a memorial service at the Hall, but it was so devoid of anything personal about Mom that I wished we hadn't done it. We later had a small family memorial service for her, which was SO much better than the official JW service.

  Sharon Roe to be df'd tonight.

  once again, the jw's are trying to silence someone that is so hurt it is almost beyond imagination.

  sharon roe, sister in law of robert bryant is being df'd by the wts to keep her quiet about how they drove her brother in law to the brink of despair & beyond, by constantly hounding him & supporting his parents in their battle to undermine his headship as a parent by trying to get visitation and/or custody of his children.

  they knew he was severely depressed & yet continued to harass this man, to the point where something so horrible, so unspeakable happened.

  I was rather surprised after I left to find out that most people knew nothing about JWs at all, despite the JW claim that they are "spectacles to the world" and that everyone knows who they are and what a wonderful example they set.

  The ones who did know something about JWs were mainly cognizant of the irritation of being bothered at the door by JWs selling magazines.
