Hidden Meanings of the Bible: It's All About the Mind
by ProdigalSon inback in bible times, the common literary style was in parables, metaphors, and allegories.
the reason for this is that the spiritual truths they were trying to convey are too abstract and difficult to express in literal terms.
the bible itself says that not a word jesus spoke was literal:.

By sneakely taking god's place in their literature and Bible interpretation, this particular cult has a negative effect in people's sense of spirituality and transcendence.
One of the main differences with other mainstream religions is that the WT does not promote real virtue, as drones are never particularly nice people, and the borg main goal is manipulation, control, real estate and who knows what political agenda.
They have no remote understanding of concepts like grace, love and justice that are essential in Christianity.
Christian religions don't need obscure rituals and strange doctrines to keep their members loyal; instead they tend to promote decency, spiritual transcendence, and a more humane society.
Darwinism produces apes, and not everybody enjoys living under the rule of apes.

Who is easier to indoctrinate, men or women?
by kneehighmiah infrom purely anecdotal evidence, i believe women are more indoctrinated on average.
i can openly disagree with the governing body with men and it results in a discussion however, most women i've talked to have immediately shut me down by ending the conversation.
the only person currently shunning me is a woman.

I think Christianity only became less attractive to men the moment secret societies appeared in the scene, before that Christianity was very much a male religion. Let the woman learn in silence....

It appears women are easier to indoctrinate, but only because a lot of men prefer to join secret societies rather than organized religion.
Nobody really knows what they believe, but since the french revolution and during the 20th Century those societies have been far more fanatic and destructive than any known religion.
A number of men join them seeking to gain status or power over others, even if most of them achieve only a small measure of it.
That seems to be enough to keep them happy in chains.

I think they realized that some witnesses are rebelling in their own little ways: gambling, disrespecting their husbands, smiling at disfellowshipped ones, etc.
It's room for hope though a very small one and they intend to close it.

by Julia Orwell inso the question is posed in this week's watchtower study at our former cult's houses of indoctrination.
i should like to answer it, and i should like to hear your answers too.. the question is in two parts, and i shall address each one in turn.. q. is my life more meaningful?.

They won freedom of speech, while steeling mine!
by BackSlider inso oftin i recall being excited about all the cases that were won in the name of jehovah.
i would talk with my dad and ask him how could it be possible that the supreme court judges haven't become witnesses.
it made no sense to me, that these men and women were not moved by all the wins that the organization was piling up.

If JWS ever became a majority, society would become like the movie "I am legend" for the ones that didn't agree with them. Zombies everywhere!

WT ain't going out of business.
by joe134cd ini've heard this said in other posts, so now i'm going to combine it in one post.. the $28 million awarded to conti is only drop in the bucket for what they are worth.. there would have to be 100 s of successful sex abuse law suites before they would feel it.
quite frankly i don't reckon there would be enough with the right circumstances to have a successful case against wt.
having a dozen or so cases isn't going to break the bank.

It seems that in over a century, everybody that had dealings with these scumbags wishes they never had.
They are very sneaky, but they wouldn't be able to keep the business going if the media exposed them for what they really are about.
For some reason that has never happened.

I remember pondering what "BS Translation" stood for. Of course I didn't dare to joke about it at the time.

We all know the WT prefers the Old Testament ways, figuratively stoning her.
This actually reminds me of three episodes in the Old Testament which they don't seem to have a conflict with, as they have never been explained properly at the meetings:
1. When Samson went to a prostitute.
2. When Josua's two spies spend the night in the house of a prostitute.
And 3. When Judah wanted to stone Tamar after leaving her pregnant believing she was a prostitute.
They seem to be more in tune with the Old Testament's spirit, where apparently men didn't need to be free from sin to the same extent as women for some strange reason.
