i nearly fell off my seat.
this 30ish jw elder came strolling in the movie theater with his wife and a huge tub of pop corn in his arm to watch x-men 2: xmen united.
i couldn't believe the hypocrasy.........they teach not to even watch much tv, much less go to a movie.
I'm with descender on this one. Most elders I know will go see PG-13 movies. I only know of a few that won't. I was kind of thankful that some elders watched PG-13 movies, because then I could use that as an argument for me being able to watch them. If anyone ever gave me flack, I could just say, "well elder so and so sees PG-13 movies, so they must be ok".
I guess I should be thankful that I grew up in the hall ( actually, a few different halls ) that I did. As long as you stayed away from R rated films, you were ok!
.
most jws can't say "god bless you" or "bless you" when someone sneezes for fear of blessing someone with the wrong god.. now that you are out, do you have the nerve to say it?.
yizuman.
To be polite, I always say bless you if someone sneezes. When I was a jw, I always felt bad not being able to say it.
ok, this has probably been discussed before, but, how many here have tried the atkins diet?
did you have a good/bad experience with this diet.
the reason i ask is because i went to my doctor and my bp is way up.
I am on medicine for an underactive thyroid, and I also have high BP that I take medicine for. I never had a blood pressure problem before when I was thinner. I have found Weight Watchers to be great, but lately even that has been slow working ( when you only loose a pound a month it gets a bit discouraging ). Anyway, I was at my endocrinologist the other day, she told me to look into the Akins diet. She said sometimes it works for people with slow metabolisms. I haven't actually read the book yet, but it's great to hear how it's affected other people. I was rather weary of it ( I love my carbs!! ), but I may take a look at it now.
to all of you i want to say thanks for the many hours ,love, fun, & affection i have experienced on this board...simon & ang a special ((hug)) for letting me be here.
to those who have adopted me as a mum, gran, friend thanks for putting up with me & wonderful comments you have made about me...i cannot keep up with the board anymore.

So yesterday was my birthday, and until I went to work at 4 PM, not a single birthday wish came my way ( actually, I did get a couple birthday wishes from web sites I had joined, lol ). I should be used to this of course. Most of my family is JW. I'm not quite sure why I let it get to me. Maybe I was just hopng for a phone call or something, from a relative who may have remembered ( my dad isn't a jw, but god forbid he actually remember the day I was born ). I don't know.( it may also be due to the fact that Sunday is Mothers day, and I know that won't be acknowledged either ).
On a happier note, at work they all wished me a happy birthday. I even got a bouquet of flowers from one. And a good friend of mine got me a gift, one of the best ( and funniest ) gifts I ever got, because of the thought behind it. This friend and I were discussing childhood one day, and we got on the topic of toys. Any way, I had told her I didn't have many toys growing up because my family didn't have much money. I was envious of one of my friends growing up because she had the toy baby alive ( you had to feed this doll and then change her diaper ). So my friend Jen got me a doll ( it wasn't baby alive, but just as good ), one that talks and responds to your voice. Now how funny is that? Giving a woman who just turned 34 a childs doll for her birthday! But it was one of the best gifts I ever got, because of the thought behind it.
stealing someone elses thread about music..... what were some of the television shows that you thought were just too horrible to think of watching, or were conseled on watching?.
i got reamed out for watching the simpsons.
i just laughed at the ms who freaked on me.
I knew of an elder who made his whole family walk out of Disneys " The Little Mermaid ". The reason? Not just because of the witch, but because he thought Arial had a bad attiude. She sang a song saying she wanted to be part of that world ( meaning the land ). LMAO!!! He was afraid his two daughters would adopt a similar " worldly " attitude.
