"Shepherd" book published online by National Broadcasting Agency in Norway!
by Boudica inwow, did not think this was possible... the whole shepherd the flock - book available + some of the late boe letters regarding child abuse policies and secrecy, published here by nrk (the national broadcaster in norway).. http://www.nrk.no/contentfile/file/1.10660993!2010_ks10-e3vedl%20til%20slutt%20%282%29.pdf.
wonder how long it will be before it is removed?.
and jw being top story, child abuse matters discussed from different angles.. well done to those who have been able to make nrk interested and give it full coverage!.

Do you miss "dressing up" for the meetings?
by dozy ini was thinking about this the other day when doing a bit of tidying up of my wardrobe.
all the kh suits are now pushed to the back of the wardrobe and i am seriously thinking about a visit to the charity shop to get rid of most of them.. for me one of the (few) enjoyable aspects of being a jw was getting dressed up.
my secular work very rarely involves putting on a dress suit & tie so i miss getting dressed up - smart suit , tie , shiny shoes , slapping on the aftershave.

I did like dressing up. I probably pushed the envelope a bit by dressing in form fitting pencil skirts and often wore fishnets and boots with classic and unique jackets. At times I would even wear garters and thigh high stockings underneath just to feel an inner sexiness lol. At 6'2" in my heels I was hard to miss but no one ever messed with me lol. I was careful with skirt length and neckline but could hardly be referred to as a conservative dresser. I miss that part.

I guess I did not consider myself actually fading until I was no longer giving any parts. That lead to sporadic meeting attendance and that lead to no field service and that lead to no meetings. Been 14 months since setting foot in the door of a KH. The only way I would knock on one of those doors in the territory would be to apologize for ever coming there in the first place with a bunch of crap.

WHAT ARE YOUR MOST VIVID, ODD, or FUNNY Memories of Conventions and Assemblies of Jehovah's Witnesses?
by Balaamsass inshare with us memories of the bizarre, funny, strange, what you hated, what you miss...we all have them.
(question..why the big to do between terms- convention and assembly .
-
joyfulfader
We were returning home from a day at the convention at the Cap Center outside of Washington DC in MD (1980's) on a particularly hot day in bumper to bumper stopped traffic when lo and behold we see a man sauntering up the median in nothing but socks and shoes. I suppose the asphalt was too warm for his feet lol. Made the evening news. Was probably my first ever glimpse of the male anatomy lol

Did you ever have to walk out of/shut off a movie when watching with JWs?
by keyser soze ini can only recall one occasion.
it was when my brother and future wife were dating.
they had dinner at my parents' house, along with her uber-zealous/borderline psychotic parents.

The flying monkeys in the wizard of oz caused quite a bit of contention among those in my former cong. They were Satan's monkeys. I would say "it was all a DREAM guys!!!" How many people have rational dreams?? I suppose they could come out with a WT forbidding the dreaming of anything not on the GB approved list of story lines.

I know of a couple that was only privately reproved for a 3 year physical relationship. They never got married. Just broke up. Guess it depends on the elders and those involved.

I really thought i was going to live forever
by Aussie Oz inrandom discussion today ended up in my wife mentioning when she saw halley's comet (1986?
) and all of a sudden i had a total recall moment!.
when it came by, rather than make the effort to watch it, i flippantly said "nah, i'll see it next time!".

Celebrating Christmas?????
by DATA-DOG ini am just curious, and not judging.
if you are a christian and you know that december 25th is not jesus' birthday, and may have pagan roots, then why celebrate it?
i was raised a dub as most of you know, and have learned the ttatt so i know how wrong they are about a lot.
-
joyfulfader
i am doing it for the first time ever i think because i can. i did not go wild once iknew TTATT. i guess i realized how the witnesses pick and choose what is pagan and can be done. wedding rings and their pagan origins and the glorifying anniversary parties made me realize they could celebrate christmas if they wanted and be no less culpable than they are now. i love having the freedom to choose now. my bf is atheist but celebrates for the family togetherness. just about everything has a pagan origin of some sort.

Meeting with my family doctor...
by NVR2L8 ini needed a prescription renewed and found out my old doc retired...met my new doc and took this opportunity to update my medical record...removed the no blood transfusion clause from my file.
i told the doctor that inconsistencies within my church's doctrines made it impossible for me to put my life at risk for no valid reason.
after throwing out my medical directive card, amending my medical record is another step toward totally breaking free from the cult.

It was so freeing to update all my medical records to erase the JW status and emphasize that I WILL indeed accept blood. I felt like a huge weight had been lifted!!

I remember about 15 yrs ago when my ex husband and I were at the book study and the conductor made a mistake in his comments. I had to say something to my elder husband to tell him about it...it was a big mistake that no one else caught and i was praised for my allowing my husband to take the credit. My subjection was supposedly worthy to be imitated or some drivel such as that. I felt like a second class citizen and angry that I was not deemed good enough to mention his error even in private. Never again!!!
