The Bible or God? - A Message to Formerbrother
by David_Jay in“i still can not find any other option that comes as close to all the bible as jws do.”-- from the profile of formerbrother.. this is lengthy, but it should help you, formerbrother.
the problem is not in your search for this "option" but that you are searching according the criteria set out by the jehovah’s witnesses (and likely following the reasoning set out by their claims).. before proceeding, understand clearly (as there will always be someone reading this that will skip this point that i make) that i am not writing to advance any particular religious view.
though raised and baptized as a jehovah’s witness in my late teen years, i am jewish.

Major Protestant Bible Gets approved Catholic Edition
by David_Jay ina very different way of doing things compared to the nwt of the jehovah’s witnesses, one of the most popular translations in the protestant world now has a formal catholic edition (and thus will drown the nwt further below the growing numbers of this new bible edition).. originally released to the english-speaking catholics in india, and soon to be released in the uk and the united states, tyndale publishers has received an imprimatur for their top-selling new living translation (nlt).. one of the best-selling bibles in english, the nlt was originally designed to be a revision of the popular living bible.
however, as the revision work grew, the nlt became a translation in its own right.. not understanding what was involved, originally tyndale attempted to release a catholic edition of the nlt in the 1990s in the usa.
it failed because the translating team and publishers, who at the time were mostly evangelical protestants, didn’t comprehend the way catholic books get published and why catholic faithful tend to put so much faith in the “official stamp” of an imprimatur.. afterwards the translating team behind the nlt decided to bring their translation into the realm of interconfessional cooperation by building a team of translators from various christian traditions and denominations.

Official Increase in the Number of Jehovah's Witnesses You Shouldn't Trust
by David_Jay inreports are coming from witnesses that, once again, the number of memorial partakers has risen considerably this past year, 2016. while confirmation is still to come on the exact numbers, the current explanations given for this increase surely causes a dilemma.. imagine the roman catholic church publishing each year the number of members who it felt were mistaken about what they believed in, that this same number of members was likely suffering from problems such as pride or even mental disorders or something along this line.
this number, by the way, was in the thousands too and growing annually.
what would you conclude, therefore about the catholic church and its admission?.

The "I" in Jehovah's Witness Religion
by David_Jay in(yes, i am taking to and about you, "a believer.
ever notice how proponents of jehovah's witnesses tend to say almost the same thing when pushing their views on us?
"i have been doing this study of religion and i have come to these conclusions...".

Think for Yourself: Reform Judaism Uses JW Blood Issue For Shavuot
by David_Jay inas the jewish holy day of shavuot (pentecost) begins this weekend, the reform judaism site publishes an interesting article entitled "judaism teaches: question authority, think for yourself.".
the article employs a jewish doctor's recollection of a jw patient who refused blood and died as an example of how both religious traditions greatly differ on how they see and apply god's law.. shavuot is the day jews recall god's giving the law to israel.
the article is significant in that it demonstrates how jews see the giving of the law as a call to questioning authority, including divine revelation itself whereas the death of the jw patient is contrasted as a slavish interpretation that misses the point behind jewish scripture.. for more see the article at:.

Differences Between Ex-JWs
by David_Jay inwe are not all the same--a real "duh, david!
so i figured if i didn't feel that sense of solidarity that seems missing among the debating, then i was part of the problem.
i'm responsible for making this place feel like a support and place of solidarity, just as much as anyone else.. but approaches i tried didn't work until i shut up for a while.

Watchtower Bible & Tract Society: Pretending to Be Alive?
by David_Jay inaccording to market analysis, the e-book market has taken a dip in 2015. because companies that publish e-books can (and do) monitor the use of the e-books materials they release, not only their sales but the individual e-book’s use gets tracked.
companies like amazon and kobo as well as nielsen book research in the uk all report that while the format remains popular, sales have dipped more than a quarter last year in some places like britain, and that hard copies of books still are preferred.. amazon (u.s.a.) sales figures give an example of how things are working on the world scene.
for instance non-fiction hard copy printed books sales (including religion) made up a healthy 42% of their purchased books in 2015. in the same category, however, e-books made up only 6% of the sales.. kobo monitored its e-book sales and found that 60% of the electronic versions never even got opened.

Orthodox Jews Recognize Christianity as 'Willed By God' as Catholics Call Jewish Covenant "Irrevocable"
by David_Jay into date, over 50 jewish rabbis from around the world have added their names to an historical statement in response to ongoing jewish and catholic relations which have proved successful since the vatican released nostre aetate some 50 years ago...and the number is growing.. in the first days of december of 2015, about 24 orthodox rabbis signed a "statement on christianity" released by the israel's center for jewish-christian understanding and cooperation, with the vatican releasing its own document entitled "the gifts and the calling of god are irrevocable" just one week later.
both statements recognize each other's religion as divine, from the same source, and part of the same (albeit mysterious) providential economy of redemption from god.. while not totally new, especially since the papacy of st. pope john paul ii, the vatican document is a substantial culmination of formal statements and studies that came before over the last half century.
especially from the largely ignored but striking significance of the pontifical "the jewish people and their sacred scriptures in the christian bible," the new 2015 document is a reiteration of all that has come before in one place, resounding the previous scripture-study statement that the church holds that the jews are still the covenant people of god, that the covenant has never been revoked, and.... "in the past, the break between the jewish people and the church of christ jesus could sometimes, in certain times and places, give the impression of being complete.

What Are We Now?
by David_Jay inhow do we rate after leaving the watchtower?
are we very different people after we have walked out our last meeting at the kingdom hall?
or are we essentially a "mad-lib" version of what we claim we once were, that we have merely "filled in the blanks" with our latest set of convictions and still think we have the truth, are right and others wrong, and feel we must promote our new "truth"?.
