  episode 203 of netflix ... i am a killer looks at the murder of christopher chavez in texas.

  christopher chavez was a 22 year old ministerial servant and a born-in son of an jw elder.

  after a thursday night meeting and a quick bite to eat afterwards with friends at a local restaurant, he was kidnapped, taken to a gas station and forced to drive his killers around for hours while they were in the back seat.

  In the WT, fighting back in self defense, even inflicting a fatal blow to the assailant is permitted. at least since 1975:

  Awake 1975 9/8 Page 27-28

  If flight is impossible, the individual may be able to reason with the assailant. But, at other times, trying to reason with a person determined to inflict injury may lead to loss of valuable time. The situation may be such that the only thing a person can do is to use whatever is at hand to protect himself or others. As a result, the attacker may receive a fatal blow. From the Scriptural standpoint, the one acting in self-defense would not thereby incur bloodguilt.

  after discouraging and in many instances prohibiting jw's from getting an education, like in computer graphics, film-making and design, the wt is employing these kinds of professionals and throwing vast sums of money at their new film-making adventures doubtless from all the properties they confiscated, sold that the local members paid for.

  Nothing new to see here. JW's have been spending a lot of money on a lot of things since Russell's time, ever since they produced the Photo-drama of creation.

  They have a lot of cash with them from the time they scaled back their printing work and sold real estate.

  For many JW's giving money to WT equates to serving God. But then, who are we to judge? Many Ex-JW's give their money to Lloyd, so to each his own.

  it is a very long time since i was an elder and the elders textbooks have changed multiple times since then.

  going back to when i was an elder, to the best of my knowledge the only way a spouse could divorce from his/her partner was porneia, if that person had sexual relations with a man, woman, child, or beast.

  but it had to be proven and that's the dubious 2 witness rule.. in fact, if it was not proven and the innocent party divorced and married someone else, then they could be hauled up in front of a judicial committee and be charged with committing adultery and disfellowshipped!

  Pity help the poor man if he spent the night on a sofa, with his secretary in the bedroom, because the hotel reservation had been cancelled by the office junior in error.

  That's why the book says "extenuating circumstances".

  Also, my wife will leave me in a second if she comes to know that I spent the whole night sleeping on the sofa while my secretary was in the bedroom. She would prefer I go out and sleep on the sidewalk, park bench, or even under the bridge among the homeless if such a situation arises. She has made this crystal clear before we got married.

  When I was a JW, I would have been very uncomfortable allowing Jesus' spirit to live inside of me.

  If you were a JW, you woudn't have read the King James Version, but the New World Translation, which gives a different rendering of the above scripture.

  You are doing great, There is no need to da.

  I no longer believe in the WT, but am in for my old mother's sake. She sacrificed a lot for me and my siblings, and I'd rather see her die peacefully thinking about being resurrected and meeting my father in paradise, than shatter her final days by leaving the WT officially.

  JW's who come to meet her enjoy my association and I just go with the flow. Some of these in my congregation are real nice caring people who are doing their best to serve their God sincerely. I don't have any issues with them, and neither do they have with me. It doesn't harm me to read the Bible to her or help her set up the broadcasting programs.

  For elderly parents, the time for waking them up has long gone. It's the time to give love and attention.

  Sanderson’s “Young People” convention talk

  so did anyone else have the misfortune of listening to sanderson’s talk corresponding to the saturday morning convention program?.

  full title is “young people - choose a path that leads to peace!”.

  the basic idea is, hey you teenagers, you ought to be pioneers, wt construction workers, and/or bethelites.. i tried to put myself back in time an embarrassing number of decades…if i were in this talk’s target audience, how would i respond?.

  The article that you provided gives situations where soldiers can disobey their superiors if the orders are unreasonable. - But how many soldiers get that opportunity to scrutinize their conscience while in the field?

  Also, isn't war fuelled by state propaganda? A Russian Christian soldier will mercilessly hit a shopping complex in Ukraine because he is convinced in his heart that Ukrainians are his enemies. I'm not sure if his Christian conscience will be in bearing for his actions.

  In India, many Christian soldiers were part of the contingent that participated in Operation Blue Star in 1984. However, many experts still believe that the operation was a political move by the local government, and was utterly unnecessary.

  In short, Doesn't a Christian soldier participate in war in a zest of patriotic fervor and the propaganda fed to him by the ruling party? I'm not sure if his Christian ideologies will come into play on the battlefield.
