What adult has conversations such as this that are beyond puerile?
I realize that as a New Yorker my response to most of these demonstrations would be, "get the F outta here!"
No, literally get the f outta here!

@DJS I agree, with the exception that we needn't wait for the Govt to act. As individuals we need to voice whenever possible that this type of fundie hatred needs to stop.
today my wife showed me the new medical directive and power of attorney form she got at the meeting.
surprisingly she asked if i wanted to fill mine!
i have been inactive for 6 years and i don't go close to any jw gatherings because i don't want friends who only care for me unless i share their beliefs.
Actually, one would never use ethanol to clean a wound. Maybe rubbing or isopropyl alcohol would be more appropriate although not medically recommended. Usually an anti bacterial soap and water are best.
I would rather drink enough ethanol to not feel the pain of the wound than to use it to disinfect said wound.
So while your DW is technically correct, I still would decline to fill out the stupid blood card. Cheers!
it occurs to me, if i was starting from scratch choosing a religion or belief system to join, there's one good question i should like answered first:.
does this religion promote a way of life and view of the world that would be satisfying even if not a single word of its doctrines are true?
if jws honestly answered that question i doubt many would say it's a good choice.
If I was starting from scratch, I think the better question would be, "Why do I need to attach myself to a religion to have a satisfying life?"
my rant tonight is against the quasi religious apologists that post on this board.
those who at once rail against the jw's then later talk about how "orderly" and "neat" the witnesses are at their conventions.
those who site the benefits of bloodless surgery to some who have the luxury and time to actually make an educated choice, while ignoring the tens of thousands who've died because they happen to be in an accident or succumb to a disease for which there is no other treatment.. i understand the power of cognitive dissonance.

I understand the power of cognitive dissonance. I've been there myself. But why, under any circumstance, would you want to lend any credence whatsoever to an evil cult? I once knew a member of the Hitler Youth. He often recalled how orderly, clean and prosperous Germany became after the Nazi party took over. I remember thinking that it was this early indoctrination that made the witness propaganda appeal to him. A world where the "final solution" was to eliminate an entire class (race) of people that stood in the way of paradise. Does this sound familiar?
In my opinion, if circumstances permitted, if there were some justification, the leaders of the WT would have no qualms about taking matters into their own hands. They would look upon genocide as a righteous tool and a mandate from the most high. That is the evil that resides in all fundamentalist religion.
So think about that when you want to give the witnesses a break because they "dress so well."
the title is a bit of click bait.
but here's the alternative title: what stupid beliefs/ideas did you have while an active jw.. i think the majority of jws that don't have obvious mental health issues are not stupid, just un/under-educated.
for example, i now accept evolution as a thing, not a controversy or conjecture.
I remember the line where if you discover a house in the middle of the woods you would assume it has a builder right?
I guess they believe in the "junkyard tornado" theory
...is an epic triumph is emotional manipulation.
bringing together all of the stories they told thus far and placing them int he "new world" complete with the little boy who was killed in a car accident coming back from the dead.. i have a good friend who is stuck in with family and plays the role.
he said everyone was crying, and the people next to him rated the videos by how many tissues they needed to dry their eyes.
So in the paradise earth, all the black chicks will still have access to hair straightening products and salons?
Sorry, just an observation......
Also, anyone notice that these videos are relatively short to match the attention span of their audience?
@problemaddict I've been to San Diego and remember the ridiculous crowds and heat of 1984 affectionately known as "The Temple of Doom " assembly because of the heat and thunderstorms.
every year in dozens of cities where conventions are being held, newspapers typically write an article about the event.
there are exceptions, but usually it is like the articles above.
i would love to see more newspaper articles that did some actual objective reporting, rather than puff pieces.
As a biker and tattoo enthusiast, I'd rather not put up with mind controlled zombies. I find it interesting that the reporter graduated from a no name college and writes about higher education. I wonder how she feels about the wits take on college degrees?
And let's face it folks, these rags are hardly the NY Times or Boston Globe. If memory serves from having attended a convention or two at this worn out C rated arena, (home of the wildly successful stamp and collectible expo this year) these home town shopping circulars are trotted out every year as "proof" of how positively we are viewed by the community. The reality is that most people are aware of the controversial teachings of the wits and avoid them whenever possible.
take a look at the back of your tv/entertainment centre.
a mass of power and signal cables connect the various pieces of equipment in very specific ways.
imagine you wanted to switch the locations of your satellite receiver and your dvd player.
Two degrees cooler? Convince me of that on a hot summer day.
have you all noticed the obsession witnesses have of putting jw.org on all their social media sites like facebook, twitter, instagram etc?.
so many put it in their bio section...like some sort of loud proclamation to other witnesses that they are righteous and spreading the message.. it's also very lazy.
now with no personal effort at all, they can just say jw.org and be "witnessing".
@stephanie61092 ALL of instagram is staged happiness. "Here is a picture of whatever the hell I ate last night."
Who cares what you shoved into your pie hole?
