G'day Mac,
I would define the whole submission as a lie.

Agree with larc. Some threads could be moved here. Now that you're a Jedi, Simon, you have the POWER!!

The dove symbolized the "gentleness, purity and guilelessness of the Holy Spirit".
BTW the scripture text does not actually say there was a dove. It reads "like a dove". Notice it says "like". Of course, the Watchtower publications always show an actual dove descending over Jesus' head, but this is not specifically stated in the scripture. It may have been a dove or it could mean that the descent was like a dove.

today's watchtower study (feb 15, p17) seeks to reassure jws that jehovah will take action against all opposers to the wtbts.. it states: "unscrupulous men slander jehovah's witnesses, branding them a 'dangerous cult'.
god is aware of their actions-and these will not go unpunished.
"(para 11).
Thanks very much Amnesian for the excellent point
"Zephaniah and Jeremiah and the other prophets warned Jehovah's own people, right? And if JWs represent Jehovah's people today, why does par 17 make the following modern-day application?"
Very apropos. Thanks for pointing it out.
BTW I think this may have been your very first post here. Welcome aboard! We're happy to have you here and look forward to reading many more insights. I'll be looking out for them.
Cheers,
Ozzie
Good point stephenw20,
Can anyone become a JW simply by reading the Bible? I think not.
If they just had the Bible, how could they possibly arrive at 1914, 2 classes, even the two hopes?
Only with the "aid" of the Witness literature would a person ever come to belief in the Witness doctrines.
Cheers,
ozzie
i am a jehovah's witness until today, but i don't know if i'll continue to be one of them tomorrow.. i said that because for once my eyes are open to reallity and i can clearly see that there is not organization beyond our creators name.. i see a lot or imperfect man trying to do what is right, but allways those desires are corrupted by their pride or greediness.. i think that in the watch tower organization are really a lot of people who really wants to served god.
but i think too that there are a lot a people who doesn't have love and mercy for their brothers.
a well known saying says that you will catch more fly with honey than with vinager.. this doesn't mean that people are allowed to do whatever they want without any respect for god's word in the bible.
G'day all,
Nice post unc. You're waxing lyrical today, eh? I can't top that, old son.
Are we victims or bitter? Does there have to be a choice? I find in my own case that at times I AM ANGRY at the wicked works done in God's name, especially by the elder class. Then at other times I am more sad than bitter. Sad for all the people putting their efforts into complying with onerous rules (5 meetings, 10 hrs field service, length of skirts, dating, music, movies, etc etc). Ray Franz termed them "victims of victims". How appropriate!
So in answer, I'll have a bet each way!

hi to all again.. about a year before i packed it in back in late '90 the wts reprinted (in english in the uk) the wt bound volumes from 1960 - 1979.. in view of the (even then) dodgy information (e.g.
the 1975 issue in the 1968 bound volume) i wondered why they did this.
ok so the internet wasn't around but i would have thought that the last thing the wts would do was draw attention to issues they would rather forget.
Here in the Great Southern Ocean we've never heard of Mr Angry. Who is he?

what i find bemusing is, if there are any disfellowshipped ones in your hall they have to sit at the back.
now without getting into the merits/rights/wrongs of whether this should be still acceptable, where do they sit in your hall?
you see i seem to remember that they would sit on the back row, come in quietly just after the song and prayer and leave at the end just as quick.
G'day all again,
A couple of replies to some interesting and valuable points that have been raised:
mommy
"Maybe I was just reassuring them they were human."
Yes, you were doing that and how important it is. Just think, a person who is repentant is already feeling pretty low. The treatment they get at the KH can simply confirm their worthlessness. How different from the Prodigal Son's return! He was welcomed back. His self-worth was restored. He felt better about himself that his father was confirming his forgiveness. This is confirmed by joelbear's comment "If one person in the hall had smiled at me or patted my back or squeezed my shoulder I would probably still be a witness."

I wonder, why does she even want to go?
BTW you have a good point to make, despite the profanity!
Cheers,

Under the W/T system the sin is not forgotten. It's constantly brought up before the repentant one. He/she is never allowed to forget it.
Generally I have found that JW responses to this have concentrated on the congregation/organisation's perspective, never the repentant one's. Good on ya, mommy.

G'day all,
Methinks this could be quite a long thread!
I have personally seen congregations have rules for where DF sit.
1. Generally at the back
2. Somethere 'inconspicuous' so as not to cause embarrassment (Don't you love that one!)
3. In the vestibule.
No doubt the front row is out of bounds.
I have also personally witnessed:
The door to the Kingdom Hall being pushed in the face of an incoming DF person by the attendant.
A DF brother being pushed aside in his own home by a service overseer keen to not exchange a greeting!
Need I go on?
Don't know about where you live, but in the land of Oz things have sunk pretty low!
Ozzie
i am thinking of going to the memorial with a sign in the window of my car that says, happy as an exjw, visit www.jehovahs-witness.com.. any thoughts?.
hugs.
joel.
who will see it? remember it's after sundown!!!
