Watchtower will always trot out these two verses: 1 Corinthians 15:33 and Proverbs 13:20 and apply them to non-JWs. If you are not a JW, they cannot be your friend because you are automatically "worldly", "bad association" and "don't love Jehovah". If you work or go to school with them, at best they can be your acquaintance, not your friend.

The Change
by Counter-Watchtower inthe change has begun.
my jw friends that came to my house months ago finally have figured out i am in no way going to become a jw (how it took them that long i have no idea).
now the change to them wanting to have nothing to do with me has begun.

So there are only 12 magazines left!
by stuckinarut2 inok, so hot on the heels of the announcement at the agm, we have been told that there are probably only 12 magazines left!.
yes, there will be only 3 wt each year, and 3 awakes.... and that they will do this for two years, then reprint those issues.... so yes, the "abundance of spiritual food" is limited to 12 more magazines..... surely, this is proof of the end coming so soon!?!
😉.

Trivial stuff about the AGM
by sir82 inlots of good comments already about the content of saturday's agm broadcast.. i just thought i'd add my (trivial!
) comments about the magnificent 7:.
-- loesch - was he intentionally trying to be boring?

The few excerpts I've seen of Loesch in the past few years gives me the impression that he is very tired and perhaps doesn't have much time left. The demands of a modern day Governing Body member may stretch for him.

Were You Ever SHOCKED That Someone Got Appointed As An Elder?
by minimus ini remember some men getting appointed and wondering what the hell were they thinking???.
likewise when i came to someone being appointed a presiding overeer or whatever they are called now!

I remember being shocked that one guy (and his wife) was invited back to Bethel simply because he was a conniving sort of person. I assumed all appointments like this were made by holy spirit. Later he was dismissed from Bethel and DFed for having an affair.

AGM - Are they now teaching predestination?
by Doubting Bro inanother agm thought.
in tight pants tony's part, he mentioned several times that jehovah draws those he chooses and only those rightly disposed would come in.
and individuals that liked the literature but made no progress towards becoming jw were a "waste of time".. was he setting the stage for them introducing the thought of predestination?

You are right...if only certain people are drawn and not others, then it is not a matter of freewill.

When the October and November 2011 Watchtowers had articles about 607BC, I decided to dig deeper to ensure what they were saying was correct. Not only was it wrong, but the way they referenced outside experts (partial quotations, ect), showed they were practicing outright deceit.
No 607, no 1914. No 1914, no 1919. The whole belief system falls apart.

How/when did you become a jehovas witness?
by Lewis1998 inso i've been a protestant for most of my life, it's how i was raised, but recently i started questioning my faith more and more and now i feel like my beliefs resemble that of a jehovas witness rather than a protestant.
i don't know any jehovas witnesses, so i was just wondering how a lot of you found the religion and adapted to it?.

I was born-in, the third generation from both sides of my family.
What beliefs of yours resemble the JWs?
What if you encounter beliefs from this group that you do not agree with?
For instance, do you believe Jesus began his invisible presence in 1914 and that in 1919, he selected the leaders of this organization to be his faithful slave, his only channel of dispensing spiritual direction?
Do you believe if a person does not recognize the Governing Body as the Faithful Slave, one is doomed to eternal destruction at Armageddon, along with seven billion other non-JWs?
If you or your children needed a blood transfusion in an emergency to save you life, would you deny the transfusion and risk death?
If any of your friends or family would become JWs and disagreed with the Governing Body on a matter, or decided to leave the organization, would you shun them, not even saying hello?

Meetings are boring
by Akid48 inmeetings are boring for young kids and old but i'm going to focus on young kids 5 or 8.. i think is unfair that young kids get punished for falling asleep or zoning out.. as meetings are not as boring but i have to go to school the next day and staying up till 10pm isn't the best i can't get out of going.. but think of the young kids that dont even understand most of the teachings.. i know most on the site are adults but i heard of adults falling asleep..

The vast majority of JWs, adults and children, find the meetings boring. I suspect even the Governing Body finds them boring.

Don't expect any more downsizing announcements at annual meetibg
by nowwhat? inexpect a day of fluff, more bells and whistles and boasting.
they are not going to throw shade on their glorious day.
but shortly thereafter when everyone's feeling good about themselves expect the hammer to come down during a morning worship broadcast..

To see ourselves as others see us
by cofty infrom a friends facebook page yesterday.... .
translation"energy saving speil" = sales talk by somebody trying to get you to switch electricity providers"dodging the big issue dude" = trying to avoid the man selling the magazine for homeless people"switching sides to be baked by the talk talk folk" = crossing the street only to be harassed by the telephone company salespeople"the johos outside the old tiser building" = the jws outside the old newspaper office.
"street trolls" = priceless!.

Thank you for translating. I would've had no clue. What version of slang is this?
