Can the GB be directed by Holy Spirit and at the same time be not inspired ?
by Chook inyes god directs our writings but they're not inspired, so gods directions are staggered and overlapping , so the genuine innocent believing jw has a wonderful life of overlapping bullshit.
so next time you meet a jw priest ask them what is the difference between being directed and inspired, then i promise you will hear first hand an example of overlapping bull..

Two.
Then more indirectly...just one degree of separation, two more:
Another person on this forum lives in my area, knew my parents even, but we didn't know each other before.
Then there was another who has family in my area I know.

Why Do People Become JWs?
by minimus ini was born in the religion but why on earth do people join this religion?
?.

I'm a born-in, third generation on both sides of my family.
I believe cold-call converts are in the minority nowadays. Non-JWs with JWs in their family background, or who were raised as such but never converted, seem susceptible. Above post mentioned being sucked in after being married to a JW or someone studying--that happens all too often to.
Apart from this, the cold-call converts, not born-in, no family--as someone mentioned, some change of life (sometimes tragic) leaves them open for a time in looking for answers and comfort. This is accompanied by love-bombing. As well as the convert does not INTEND to join anything...they are just having a "study" to learn more about the Bible with some nice people. And it is presented in a way that makes sense and seems consistent. JWs seem to have all the answers. Things progress slowly over months and years and by that time they are hooked.

Hello from Illinois
by Rob206 ini come from a catholic background, but most recently had been with the churches of christ.
i have contacted my local congregation and will be talking with someone tomorrow, hopefully setting a study up for next week.
i want to study scripture, but also want to immerse myself in everything jw publishes.

Yes, for the real deal on what JWs teach, their history, controversies there is no better place than JWFACTS.com
There you get the real story that JW publications will not give you.

The Biblical reasoning behind a judicial comitee?
by CitizenofEarth ini was wondering today what i would say if i ever were to be called to a judicial trial in the congregation, and my conclusion was that i didn't really have any biblical defense against it.
so i was wondering what you guys would recommend.
it seems far fetched to me that the bible condones a 1 vs 3 biased trial (where you already have been judged beforehand), instead of one where you have a unbiased judge, a defense and a prosecutor/accuser.

There is at least one example in the Bible...
When the Sanhedrin tried Jesus.

The beard issue
by Ray Frankz inthis is my second topic here.
sorry for this biiig post.
i would like to tell you guys about one of the things that bothered me most, despite of being something quite simple, but since it affected me directly, so.... well, being a ministerial servant, i knew the bad view the jw in general have towards beards.
-

In the case of beards: Classic case of behavioral control in the BITE model.
BTW...it is ironic since alcohol is so embedded in Bethel, including many on the GB. As Howie Long said in several interviews, many GB members had a drinking problem. And let's not get started on Judge Rutherford!

I remember when I signed up to be assisted by a pioneer. It quickly fizzled and I didn't get the help I wanted.
This whole video thing seems more awkward than normal? Sounds like it's harkening back to the days of playing phonographs. Householders might quickly take a magazine to get rid of the JWs, but how many actually consent to watch an entire video???

My thought bubble in the 1980s:
"607 BC + 2520 Years = 1914. Carry the one, no zero year. 1914 + 1260 days = 1918. 1919 + 1290 days = 1922 Cedar Point convention, first of seven trumpet blasts…"
My thought bubble in the 2010s:
“How could I have been so naïve?”
