If alcohol was a DF offense
by James Mixon ini guess the question which is the hardest to give up smoking or alcohol.
many folks gave up smoking in the 70's including me but i have known some hard drinking brothers and if consuming any kind of alcohol became a df offense, i wonder.....

And some on the Governing Body, Bethel heavies, and many Bethelites would be out the door as well.

JWs - Liberals or Conservatives?
by neat blue dog inwhere they stand is a strange mixture.
yes, they don't agree with abortion and homosexuality, they believe in the bible and wear skirts and ties to church .
but in many ways they're liberal.
-

They are social conservatives because they share the same fundamentalist mindset as other religious fundamentalists.
However, there is a liberal mindset in the sense that they do believe in a government (although an imaginary one) that will help solve homelessness, joblessness, poverty, war, lack of healthcare, ect...everything that would be the ire of Ann Rand devotees.

Many Witnesses are just plain tired out!
by UnshackleTheChains ini believe that many witnesses are tired out or at least tiring out.
i know....... because i am tired out!.
imagine going to college for 20 years not knowing when college is finished.

The organization also loves to blame the individual for being tired out. That person must be doing something wrong, it's not the organization's fault.

Did you leave the JW RECENTLY? Really? Recently? WTF were you thinking?
by The Real Edward Gentry innot to be overly harsh...but if you just left, what the hell were you thinking?
between 1995 and now, you never did an internet search of "jehovahs-witness" or "watchtower"?
good god.

It's called indoctrination and undue influence/thought reform/mind control.
I well remember the fear of the apostate boogeyman with somewhat mystical powers to cause people to leave "the truth" with just a few magic sentences. They were predators who craftily lured people "lies, half-truths, and misrepresentations". They were "angry and bitter".
And whenever there was a red flag, there were the thought-terminating cliches. "Wait on Jehovah. Where else will we go? The light gets brighter..."
Hindsight is 20/20.

I remember the line is that "true worship" is refreshing, it's "Satan's world" that is tiring us out.

The Change
by Counter-Watchtower inthe change has begun.
my jw friends that came to my house months ago finally have figured out i am in no way going to become a jw (how it took them that long i have no idea).
now the change to them wanting to have nothing to do with me has begun.

Watchtower will always trot out these two verses: 1 Corinthians 15:33 and Proverbs 13:20 and apply them to non-JWs. If you are not a JW, they cannot be your friend because you are automatically "worldly", "bad association" and "don't love Jehovah". If you work or go to school with them, at best they can be your acquaintance, not your friend.

So there are only 12 magazines left!
by stuckinarut2 inok, so hot on the heels of the announcement at the agm, we have been told that there are probably only 12 magazines left!.
yes, there will be only 3 wt each year, and 3 awakes.... and that they will do this for two years, then reprint those issues.... so yes, the "abundance of spiritual food" is limited to 12 more magazines..... surely, this is proof of the end coming so soon!?!
😉.

It is the clear trend.

Trivial stuff about the AGM
by sir82 inlots of good comments already about the content of saturday's agm broadcast.. i just thought i'd add my (trivial!
) comments about the magnificent 7:.
-- loesch - was he intentionally trying to be boring?
-
Londo111
The few excerpts I've seen of Loesch in the past few years gives me the impression that he is very tired and perhaps doesn't have much time left. The demands of a modern day Governing Body member may stretch for him.

Were You Ever SHOCKED That Someone Got Appointed As An Elder?
by minimus ini remember some men getting appointed and wondering what the hell were they thinking???.
likewise when i came to someone being appointed a presiding overeer or whatever they are called now!

I remember being shocked that one guy (and his wife) was invited back to Bethel simply because he was a conniving sort of person. I assumed all appointments like this were made by holy spirit. Later he was dismissed from Bethel and DFed for having an affair.
