I do think it's important to differentiate the leadership (Watchtower) and the average JW, who are victims.

In the last 20 years How Many Changes Have Occurred in Watchtower Beliefs?
by minimus injehovah's witnesses say that they have the truth and the truth is constant.
they believe that what they teach is the truth that comes directly from jehovah god.
can you think of anything that has changed in the last 20 years to show a jehovah's witness that the truth is not necessarily the truth..

That was pocket vetoed sometime in the 80's.

The Key Text on JW.Org Leaves Out The Most Important Part!
by steve2 inperhaps the one scripture most often quoted by jws is matthew 24:14: "this good news of the kingdomwill be preached in all the inhabited earth and then the end will come.
" even after decades away from the kingdom hall, i can still rattle off that verse.
i daresay all 8-plus million "active" jws can also recite it, plus the untold millions who have left or become inactive across the decades.. it is among the top cornerstone texts used in jw communications.. but now there's a significant shift in the use of that text: jws often focused heavily on the part of the scripture about the end coming.

What communications are they? If to the outside world, they might want to drop that part of so as not to appear like the apocalyptic cult they are.

Did you ever buy into 1975?
by tornapart infor those of you that can remember.... did you really believe that armageddon was going to come in 1975?
i was a child of the 60s, in my teens in the 70s and can honestly say that i never bought into it.
i saw brothers and sisters selling their homes and moving into rented property.

I was only 3 in 1975, so I've no memory. My earliest memories are around 1977.
From what I understand, I had a relative say to a irate householder, "Just wait until 1975." Of course, it seems a common phenomenon for people to downplay what they expected and how much they expected it. This seems to have happened with Harold Camping's group.
I DID buy into the who line that Watchtower never claimed anything about 1975, just some people read too much into it. It was only when I started waking up around 2011 and reading what the Watchtower said (and how they said it) that I realized it was deceptive revisionism.

It's amazing how scripted this cult is...nearly talk in every congregation, assembly and convention the world over is controlled by HQ. There is very little room for variation, even for circuit overseers. It's all cookie cutter. No originality.

New "Annointed" Brother In My Old Hall...
by pale.emperor ini've only just stopped laughing.. in my old hall there's a brother who's now claiming to be of the anointed.. he's 28.. i do wonder if he's doing this for attention, if he's awake and messing with them, or if he really is that deluded.
when i was in he was an ms. which surprised even me because only a year earlier than that he was "a bit of a lad", is rubbish at talks and relies on his elder uncle to get him out of trouble all the time.. i guess this now means he's get his pick of jw sisters.
he's been after the same one as the rest of his peers since 2014..

I keep wondering how long before Watchtower declares the 144k to be a symbolic number of a comparably small number of anointed in comparison to the great crowd. Being that likely that number would've been completely filled and then some in the first century, it would make "more" sense.
Then again, this was one of the most in-depth analysis I've ever read on the topic:

Thinking about the end of the Watchtower
by JeffT infirst, a word about the watchtower’s financial position: nobody (outside the watchtower organization) knows.
the wtbs is not required to disclose its finances, and doesn’t.
we can speculate, but that is all we are doing.

This phenomena has played out so many times it is predictable. A cult declines, implodes or fractures, and smaller cults emerge. Or people leave one cult and join another. It happens even now. Unfortunately, some have ended their life because they couldn’t handle the loss of the belief system that they thought was “the Truth”.
However, it is in the greater long term good that the Watchtower declines and eventually collapses. Whatever group or groups or rebranding replace Watchtower, it will only have a hold over a fraction of the people Watchtower did.
It will provide a great opportunity for many to wake up. This is especially so for those who follow the routine, but with apathy or doubts. For some, this would be the final straw. Even if not everyone would wake up, more would wake up and find happiness in normal life than if nothing happened to Watchtower.
Unlike the times of Miller, and even with the early 90’s collapse of the Armstrong group, we live in the time of Google, Wikipedia, and all sorts of information assessable from every pocket. Once people overcome the fear that their cult puts into them about not googling, they can never unring that bell.
