As the organization declines over time, desperation might make their rule harsher as they attempt to cling to the reins, and they might.

Until the 1990's, JWs went to people's doorstep and sold magazines. Then the donation arrangement was introduced and JWs were encouraged to say the magazines were of "no charge", "but if you like to make a contribution to the world wide work" and thus solicit money, which went into an envelop that ultimately went to HQ. Of course, I could never bring myself to do this, but some JWs did follow through.
In effect, the "collection plate" is not passed at the Kingdom Hall, but has been passed from DOOR TO DOOR.
Which is better? A collection taken from fellow believers in the place where they gather to worship...or a collection taken from strangers who did not invite it?

"The purpose of reporting field service time is for encouragement"
by HereIgo ini was told this when i was an aspiring jw, aka unbaptized publisher.
the above explanation didn't make sense to me then and it never did make sense throughout my jw career.
over time, it appeared to me the real purpose of field service time reporting was to gauge one's spirituality and for the ceo *cough* co to make sure the elders were on top of things during his visit..

I'm not too sure...it was likely the late 60's. Here is the video...he mentions John Dart around the nine minute mark.

Once you've proved the truth to yourself you don't need to keep trying to disprove it...
by cognisonance ini was told this during my judicial committee (some five years ago) when i brought up concerns i had with the "truth.
" in addition one of the elders (who was an engineer) said once you've accepted a proof of pythagorus' theorem you don't later start doubting that theorem.
i thought that argument was a weak analogy then.

The problem is I didn't prove it to be the truth through unbiased research. For instance, I didn't prove to myself about 607 and 1914, ect... I basically took the word of what was written in the Watchtower.

Facial hair and Witnesses
by Jules Saturn ini never understood why the society was against beards or goatees but completely okay with mustaches.
what's the difference?
facial hair is facial hair, whether it's above your lip or around your cheeks or under your chin.

From what I understand, for Bethelites, mustaches are not allowed if you are "white".

Here is an exert from FF's talk about 1975:
"that`s all we can say to John Dart the religious editor of the Los Angeles Times or anybody else out there in the world who wants to know what we have published regarding this critical year,we know its a critical year,we know we are near something, but were not saying"
The audio can be found online on Youtube and other places. His tone conveys more information on the meaning than the words do...and it is obvious that the audience receieve the meaning about 1975 and were ecstatic. You can also tell the sarcasm dripping in FF's voice when he mentioned "John Dart".

I know in Freddie's talk about 1975...he mentions John Dart in a condescending tone. -

Impact of transformation of jw organization
by Gorbatchov inthe organization transforms quickly into a multimedia self-help feel good religion.
i am very allergic to it.

I have been out for 6 years or so, there has been lots of changes, but I can't imagine that JWs walk away from a meeting or assembly with a "feel good" buzz, rather than the normal fear, obligation, and guilt over not doing more.
But it certainly seems to be focusing on the JW lifestyle over the illusion of doctrinal depth like it used to.
