Facial hair and Witnesses
I never understood why the Society was against beards or goatees but completely okay with mustaches. What's the difference? Facial hair is facial hair, whether it's above your lip or around your cheeks or under your chin. Idk why but I feel like a full beard looks better than a pornstache. Anyway, hope anyone could clear this up.
What i never understood was - if beards are not ok, why was EVERY picture depicting Jesus in his present position (now, today, ruling from heaven) shown with a beard? And a not a trimmed/groomed beard at that.
We're supposedto imitate Jesus
I saw some pics on JWFacts of old pictures the Society had placed in their publications of Jesus with no facial hair-at all. Couldn't believe it. Forgot what time period this was. Might've been the '20s or something
@jules - EVERY picture of jesus ( at least that ive seen in the past 40 years) past and present shows a big fat long harry, nearly duck dynasty like beard. I asked my BOE, they said yea, thats weird
Have you seen that most of the bad people in jw pictures the bad people have beards.Or in videos worldly people or the bad people have beards.
I feel like now they dont need to say not to have a beard its just drilled into peoples head.
- Nothing wrong with a neatly kept full beard. Long nose hair is a bit much though especially when there are a few boogers in them.
Yeah which makes it weird that other brothers in Europe can have beards
Wheres that from? Beards aren't permitted in the States
Jules I was kid in the sixty's and all the pictures of Jesus had no beard. Still Totally ADD
Part of their "reasoning" is that Russellites have them, imitating C.T. Russell. That's a historical fact that many Witnesses, including heavies at NY, and even GB members themselves, may well not be unaware of.
Another factor is that they are stuck in the 1950s mentality when male members in audiences of American TV game shows and male fans in stadiums at professional baseball games wore suits & ties and women attending wore dresses.
Of course, they cannot see the illogic in their frequent statements about how one would show disrespect to Jehovah by not dressing up like those old audiences did.
It is often impossible to find genuine logic in their thinking—they are quite traditional, you know, the very thing that Jesus condemned Jews of his day for being. I remember one brother saying to me that if Jesus came today instead of the first century, he would be clean-shaven and wear a suit and tie. I was speechless...
