JW Parents and kicking out their children
by NJ501 inis it a common practice for jw parents to kick their children out of the home, if the child doesn't want to be a jw.
(even though their not disfellowshipped they will still get kicked out for not going to meetings etc.??).
do other religions encourage kicking family members out this as well?

When I was 17, 2 years after I was baptized, I had major doubts and wanted to leave the religion. My family had a meltdown over it. My father basically told me that the moment I turned 18, I'd be kicked out. Until then, he wanted me to pay rent.
They also called the elders, who basically bamboozled me into believing it was "the truth" again. Ultimately I didn't leave and got sucked in until age 39 or 40.
I was basically a good kid. I wasn't smoking, drinking, doing drugs. I wasn't dating either or sleeping with anyone. My only fault was that I no longer believed it was "the truth". Of course, my father was an elder...at this time, he may have been PO, but I can't remember.

JW renaming things: "It's Not this, it's ....."
by Muddy Waters inthis was brought up in another thread, but i thought it should have its own thread.
feel free to add your own observations and experience.
the jws are so duplicit, and they rename things to somehow justify their own irrationalities.

It's not Grace, it's UNDESERVED kindness.
It's not the New Testament, it's the Christian Greek Scriptures.
It's not a cross, it's a stake.

Finds in Jerusalem shore up biblical account of Babylonian conquest (586 BCE date)
by Hecce inthis is a nice article about archaeological finds, what caught my attention is the use of 586 bce as the date for the destruction of jerusalem.. according to biblical descriptions, in 586 bce, the babylonian king nebuchadnezzar vanquished the judaean king zedekiah and razed his capital city, jerusalem.
the babylonian captain of the guard nebuzaradan was dispatched into the city, where, as told in the book of jeremiah, he “burned the house of the lord, and the king’s house; and all the houses of jerusalem, even every great man’s house, burned he with fire.”.

Astronomers have detected an exomoon 4000 lightyears away. This shores up the fact that the Earth is round.

I'm writing a letter to my country's branch
by Ray Frankz inhi everyone.. well, i have some good news.
after having a terrible moment arguing with my mom about the 1914 teaching and all it evolves (she get really upset and i felt great regret for starting the argument) she came to me next day and started talking with a much more open mind, and she talked about a lot of concerns too.. she and my father naivily expressed the wish to write to bethel to ask about 607bc.
i told in all the possible ways it wouldn't work.

I had to look this up. The simplified publication is called "What Can the Bible Teach Us?"
Here is the section in the back of the book.
In retrospect, it so full of holes I can't believe I ever bought any of this.

22 WHY IS THE YEAR 1914 SO IMPORTANT?
The prophecy in Daniel chapter 4 teaches us that God would set up his Kingdom in 1914.
The prophecy: Jehovah gave King Nebuchadnezzar a prophetic dream about a large tree that was chopped down. In the dream, a band of iron and copper was put around the tree’s stump to stop it from growing for a period of “seven times.” After that, the tree would grow again.—Daniel 4:1, 10-16.
What the prophecy means for us: The tree represents God’s rulership. For many years, Jehovah used kings in Jerusalem to rule over the nation of Israel. (1 Chronicles 29:23) But those kings became unfaithful, and their rulership ended. Jerusalem was destroyed in the year 607 B.C.E. That was the start of the “seven times.” (2 Kings 25:1, 8-10; Ezekiel 21:25-27) When Jesus said, “Jerusalem will be trampled on by the nations until the appointed times of the nations are fulfilled,” he was talking about the “seven times.” (Luke 21:24) So the “seven times” did not end when Jesus was on earth. Jehovah promised to appoint a King at the end of the “seven times.” The rulership of this new King, Jesus, would bring great blessings for God’s people all over the earth, forever.—Luke 1:30-33.
The length of the “seven times”: The “seven times” lasted for 2,520 years. If we count 2,520 years from the year 607 B.C.E., we end up at the year 1914. That was when Jehovah made Jesus, the Messiah, King of God’s Kingdom in heaven.
How do we get the number 2,520? The Bible says that three and a half times equal 1,260 days. (Revelation 12:6, 14) So “seven times” is double that number, or 2,520 days. The 2,520 days are equal to 2,520 years because of the prophetic rule “a day for a year.”—Numbers 14:34; Ezekiel 4:6.

The "slave's" dogma depicts Satan as being more powerful than Jehovah!
by The Fall Guy inaccording to the org's "guardians of doctrine," (g.o.d.
's) the figurative woman who's mentioned in revelation chapter 12 is none other than god almighty's heavenly organization - with its myriads upon myriads of powerful spirit creatures.. it-2 p. 187 - "it would follow that the “woman” is god’s “wife,” the “jerusalem above,” the “mother” of christ and his spiritual brothers.
" jv chap.

Satan is an important god in the JW pantheon, one that always has to be taken into account.
If you pray to Jehovah aloud, Satan might hear and use what you are praying about against you! If you watch a movie or read a book, it might invite Satan's angels into your life. If you buy an item at a yardsale, his minions might tag along.
When in doubt, do without! Get rid of any suspected demonic item...burn in! It's a necessary sacrifice so that the "god of this system" will be appeased and you won't draw his ire.

This seems to just be the local congregation...the Branch is still being investigated.
Also it finds elders "did not provide accurate and complete answers’ about issues under investigation."
And: "As our report makes clear, the victims of abuse were badly let down".

Sometimes I accidentally have read an old posting, smile in agreement, and then look to see who posted it, only to realize it was me. That is not meant as conceited as it sounds.
