The only way to be convinced of anything is to research the subject thoroughly. This includes researching opposing views. The Watchtower expressly forbids this.

Is it possible for any Country to have “Reasonable” Gun Laws? What would they be?
by pistolpete inso the new biden/harris gun policies are starting to appear.
it’s not clear yet, what they will be.. some suggestions; confiscate all guns.------buyback programs in each state.. there is much talk on social media that if this happens, the pandemic, + all the riots, + all the damaged property, + all the annual murders in america, - put together-will be like a sunday afternoon picnic, compared to all the deaths and property damage that will result because of “civil uprising” by millions of 2nd amendments advocates and just plain gun lovers.
americans love guns!.

When the U.S. was first founded, every male the age of 13 was required to maintain and be competent with firearms. Such persons were required to carry out both military and constabulary duties when their local community required it. Persons unable or unwilling to carry out such duties were required to pay a fee and those funds were used to pay for munitions and training for those who were willing to fight.
The problem we have in society is everyone is obsessed with living forever and are scared into paralysis of anything deemed "dangerous". The common U.S. mindset is "I pay taxes so I don't have to serve" also known as the "not my job" mentality.
I am all for citizens in the U.S. receiving basic firearms safety training in public school as a requirement. Every able bodied adult in the U.S. should have to volunteer a minimum of 16 hours a month to their local police department and receive adequate training to carry out their volunteer duties. That would include firearms training for their issued duty weapon.
Anyone who is a conscientious objector would be allowed to opt out by volunteering with their local fire department or pay more in taxes to support their local police agencies.

Hang in there. Keep your eye on love. Never put here down or act out because of her practicing her faith. Build yourself up. Suffering is alright as long as there is a purpose or meaning behind it. Suffering always transforms us into something better.

Is it because of Pride or Loyalty?
by joey jojo inin a recent effort to entice me back to meetings, an elder friend gave me the example of his dad.. he said that his pioneer/elder/ex-missionary dad went through the anticipation and disappointment of 1975 and yet, he kept going faithfully for decades afterwards.
the obvious point was that, if his dad can deal with disappointment, then, surely a nobody like me could do the same in regards to the scrapping of the 1914 generation doctrine, and all the other changes.
his 'encouragement' was to tell me that it was only me that felt like this, everyone else is fine and have no problems with the changes.

I too think it is the Sunk Cost Fallacy. It is a means that people use to deal with cognitive dissonance. One thing all people deal with is the fear that "they wasted there life". The longer a person is in the harder it is to leave because of that fear.

The Myth of being "Spirit Appointed"
by BluesBrother inback in the first century we read that the apostles would "lay their hands" on someone and the holy spirit would be imparted to that one.
appointments of older men were made in this way - at that time.
in modern times the wts has claimed that their own elders ,min.

Funky nailed it. Yes, there are a few of those elders out there that truly try living a Christian life and look at how the person is as well as what they do. The rest run it like a business, which is not surprising since the whole religion is a tax break front for a publishing company.
It is just like management of a company deciding who to promote. It's all metrics and numbers. What percentage of all meetings are attended? How many hours are spent in the ministry each month? How many magazines or books are placed (sales numbers) each month. Does the candidate project an image that complies with the company's own image?
I remember getting moved from Magazine Servant to Literature Servant. Our congregation had a horrible problem with being overstocked with literature. I was able to get all the old 192 page books and bound volumes in the hands of the congregation members. I got pulled into the back room by the CO and Secretary and told my monthly hours and magazine placements were exemplary, but my book placements were not exemplary. I was told as the Literature Servant and I needed to be exemplary in book placements.
All assignments and appointments are given based on a business model.

Terry:
You are not alone. I recall when the Watchtower changed its stance on alternative service to compulsory military service. I saw pure pain in the face of an elder when this was said from the platform at a Circuit Assembly back in 1993. I think that was my first experience in waking up.
I am proud of you none the less, Terry.

Always Obey
by neat blue dog inthe life story in the latest wt has a running theme that keeps popping up: if the organization tells you to do something, you do it.
this culminates in the following anecdote:.
we were staying in abrother’s home right next to a kingdom hall.. .

Prime Minister of Australia announces intention to revoke Jehovah’s Witnesses charity status
by jwleaks intoday, marking the second anniversary of the australian national apology to victims and survivors of institutional child sexual abuse, the prime minister of australia has announce in federal parliament the intention to place sanctions against the jehovah’s witnesses in relation to child sexual abuse.. quote from prime minister:.
the royal commission [into institutional response to child sexual abuse], the [national] apology [to victims and survivors of institutional child sexual abuse] and these yearly reports are about accountability: bringing the truth into the light ... we still have, reprehensibly, four institutions that have been named publicly and that have blatantly refused to join the redress scheme.
they are jehovah's witnesses ... it's not acceptable.

I see Australian national JWs being instructed to make their monthly donations directly to the Watchtower Corporation in the U.S. I am not up on Australian law, but it would seem that taking care of business expenses Down Under is going to be quite difficult for the Watchtower.
