The flood and wars in the scriptures - waste of lives?

i have been thinking and was eventually wondering about the following:.

did the flood and all wars in the scriptures eventually bear the fruits that god hoped for?

is evil gone among humans?

The reality is, most of these events never took place, and those that did were not as a result of a god. Most of the Old Testament was created as a fictitious backstory to a nation that was created in captivity of the Persians.

A Canaanite tribe did not want to lose it's cultural identity while in captivity of a foreign power. They made up this story that they were a special people belonging to what they dubbed as the only true god. Thus the gods of their forefathers were turned into the YHWY of the Bible.

Is this evidence that no divine being exists. No. It just means that the Bible is a man made book. It contains persons and events that never happened. Thanks to Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation we have literally thousands of "Christian" denominations that all believe every word of the Bible is true. The Catholic Church does not teach this. The Catholic Church even openly accepts evolution and abiogenesis as the origin of man.

The reality is, every "church" that is not part of the Catholic Church is a form of idolatry.

Waco Mini-Series on Netflix. Powerful and Scary.

so we binge-watched the waco mini-series on netflix.. wow, what a powerful and enlightening programme!

even if you think you know what happened, it gives you extra context to it all.

it's very well done even if you just want a great drama series, but it's way more than that.. there are of course some dramatization and slight historical inaccuracies for the purpose of story-telling but it was very informative.

I watched the Waco miniseries myself. I know it sparked quite the conversation within my household. Here was my $0.02.

It's a "docu-drama". A Hollywood story that uses film as a medium to bring a script to life by actors. The script used information from two biographies - one written by the FBI negotiator and the other by one of the Branch Davidian members.

I don't want to spoil this series (it really is worth the watch). Here is the balance I brought to the table in my household discussion -

If everything in the film were true, this whole thing was done on the pretext of a PR piece and not enforcing the law, but there was probable cause to believe a Federal criminal law had been violated. So much so that a Federal District Judge signed a Search Warrant. The shit-show that follows happens because tactics were thrown out the window in exchange for a possible PR perp-walk.

Ruby Ridge happened in 1992 and Waco happened in 1993. I began my law enforcement career in 1999. I am SWAT certified and have been serving high risk warrants since 2013. The tactics we use now are preventing such incidents from happening. When we such related incidents happening in recent history (such as what just took place in Kentucky) it is clearly because untrained cowboy cops are putting themselves in situations they have no business handling.

The whole time I watch this docu-drama I cringed and shook my head in disbelief. In the circles I work in we have a saying - "There's a certain Federal, alphabet soup agency, we fondly refer to as 'Famous, But Incompetent.'" I have no doubt that Waco ended with the needless loss of both the lives of private citizens and law enforcement officers.

I also have the personal experience to know that training and tactics have progressed light years ahead of those events that happened 27 years ago. I also truly believe the government agents involved should have been fired and at a minimum been held civilly liable for their actions. The precedent has been recently set in Texas that they may even be criminally liable for their actions.

Do Jw's Dress up in meeting clothes for Zoom meetings?

i am just curious if anyone knows whether the "friends" still are required to wear "meeting clothes" for attending meetings through zoom?

such emphasis on dressing in a godly manner over the decades, would be interesting if some attend in pajamas or their work clothes, no makeup, etc....

Midweek Meeting looooooooong prayers.

one thing that aggravates me is long concluding prayers, especially at the midweek meeting.

you work all day, rush home, grab a quick bite, dress up in meeting clothes.

then, go to the meeting.

Romans 13:1-7 also states that the earthly authorities are God's ministers and God gives them a sword. In the books of Acts the first gentile Christian convert was a Roman soldier. Cornelius was a Roman Centurion. The Apostle Peter converted Cornelius. At no time did Peter tell Cornelius that he must resign from being a soldier before becoming a Christian. Yet, Witnesses will not baptize an active duty military member.

The most realistic and accurate part of this non-sense is that all the Biblical personas giving the parts are not Christian. Not just because all the Christians from the Bible would be in heaven. No, rather the Watchtower is obsessed with the Old Testament, which is ironic for a "Christian" religion.

The funny part is the "Latest Video". Where is the electricity coming from to run the equipment to record and then play this video?

Also, I thought Witnesses stopped referring to the 3 Hebrews by their Babylonian names.

In the U.K. 7 million people a year live with Cardio Vascular Disease costing the taxpayers 6.8 billion pounds a year. Coronary Heart Disease is the leading cause of death in the U.K. 1 person dies every minute from CHD in the U.K.

Clearly the government should impose through force a ban on eating anything that does not comply with a strict vegan diet. People must live even if their life brings no joy or happiness. It's the most important thing, ever.

I always thought it hypocritical of the Watchtower for disfellowshipping tobacco users, but then not batting an eye when the whole car group takes their door-to-door ministry break at the local McDonald's. Polluting your body, a temple of God, with tobacco - wrong. Polluting our body with 1300 calorie Big Mac, fries, and a Coke - that's quite alright.
