Throwing that term around is uncalled for and highly inappropriate.

Be Couragous! - (Like The Governing Body?)
by pale.emperor ini was watching lloyd evans rebuttal to the saturday program of the be courageous convention.
lloyd pointed out something that had occurred to me as well:.
all this talk and examples of courage, whether it be standing up in class defending intelligent design, putting up with being imprisoned, not running away from bullies, always having a reply to someone who tries to ridicule your faith... the young ones are encourages - nay, commanded - to stand their ground and be courageous.

Yes.
I had very low attendance before leaving. Maybe one meet a month. I notice at the very tail end friends in the congregation would not talk to me at meetings.
Shortly after that I moved out of state. I talk with my father maybe twice a year on the phone. I haven't spoken to my mother in about 10 years. My sister will take my calls, but doesn't try to maintain a relationship. Her husband was my best friend for about 20 years. We never talk. I talk to my brother occasionally, though he hasn't been active either for years.

A "no comment" reply for the AG's Office is a standard reply. Government investigative/regulatory agencies are prohibited from making comments until after a case is adjudicated. This is to maintain the integrity of a case. The media knows this, but insists on asking and publishing the "no comment" response.

JWs and Guns.
by blownaway ini was told shooting guns and collecting them was not something a jw should do.
when i lived way up north us it was more of a deer hunting group and so some guns were ok, when i moved to florida it was different.
most people in the hall were not hunters.

I grew up in Minnesota and California. Both congregations I belonged to in those states had Witnesses who owned rifles/shotguns for hunting. My dad forbid firearms in our house, not because he is opposed to it, but my mother is. She has an unnatural fear of firearms.
I secretly owned an AK-47 and a SIG P220 handgun as a witness. Carrying of firearms to protect yourself is not forbidden - you just won't have extended privileges or hold position in the organization. That's why I did not become a cop while I was in. Huge mistake.
I learned in the police academy that Romans 13:1-7 is referred to as the "Police Officer" scripture by most churches. I learned that "Thou Shall Not Kill" is a mistranslated version of "Thou Shall Not Murder". There is a difference.
How can you be a minister of God and carry a sword he gives you to use against those who break the law while simultaneously go against scriptural principles?

Money... $$$$
by lastmanstanding inoh the money.. this years rc gave me a thought as i watched the money pour in.. at the circuit assemblies, the one dayers now, the “deficit” has been announced and the dubs expected to “rise to the occasion” with their cash.
we all thought that dubs, eventually, would do the math and see that the watchtower boys were charging a per-head fee.
we thought that this would make them think, and they would see the money grubbing.

Sex and Rockets - Strange Angel CBS series and Charles Taze Russell
by truthseeker ini'm watching the cbs series strange angel.
it is based on a true story about jack parsons, who along with others, pioneered rocket development in 1930's america.. "strange angel, a drama series created by mark heyman (black swan, the wrestler) and based on george pendle's book of the same name, explores the dramatic intersection between genius and madness, science and science fiction.. the story follows the life of jack parsons, a mysterious and brilliant man in 1930s los angeles, who by day helps birth the entirely unknown discipline of american rocketry, and by night is a performer of sex magick rituals and a disciple to occultist aleister crowley.".
the jet propulsion laboratory is derived from jack parson's initials.

Corporate Virtue Signalling At Your Expense
by Simon inthe latest trend seems to be that you can't go to any store without being asked for money.. no, not the money for the things you went in there to purchase, extra money for the store to donate to charity.. yes, that's right, the big-name stores, often making $millions in profits, ask you to give them extra money so that they can give it to charity and get some publicity about how awesome they are so that they'll look good to their customers, like, erm, you.. it seems to have ramped up more in the last year or so and frankly, it pisses me off.
if i want to donate to some cause, i'll give the money straight to them.
i hate that it puts people on the spot to guilt them into donating and imagine some people on a tight budget may give even when they can't really afford it.. often you don't know what the charities really are (it's vague like "to help children") or how the money will be spent or even how much will go on the people it's supposedly to help (charity is a multi $billion industry, some just exist to pay themselves).. so what to do?
-
truth_b_known
I believe charity is the way humanitarian causes should be funded and not trough taxation by the government.
With that being said, I too find it annoying to be asked to donate to a specific charity every time i check out at the grocery store. At the least the store should say "Would you like to donate $1.00 to Charity X? We match every dollar donated."

I haven't seen windows on a Kingdom Hall since 1987. I thought they were to have none to keep insurance rates down.
