Being exposed for covering the sexual abuse of children is not religious persecution.

Conversation with my Dad today concerning the Leah Remini show
by joe134cd injoe : i don’t quite know how to tell you this dad.
dad : what daughter .
joe : dont get mad or offensive, but there was a documentary that aired a few nights ago on prime time tv in the usa concerning the jws, and there was some very nasty stuff mentioned, and it certainly wasn’t positive toward the organisation.

For those who are athest, or non-christian, how did you come to this decision?
by Tameria2001 ini'm not asking this question to cause an argument or accuse, but i am honestly just wondering?
for those of you who are now atheist or non-christian, how did you come to this decision?
i hadn't given this much thought until about a year ago.

1. I was born in and raised as one of Jehovah's Witnesses during the time that the You Can Live Forever on Paradise Earth! book was the designated study guide leading to baptism. This was replaced by the Knowledge that Leads to Everlasting Life book. There was a big shift between the 1980s and the 1990s. The Watchtower Bible & Tract Society shifted from trying to both prove their religion was right and all other religions were wrong to just proving they were right. So, I grew up being given a great deal of knowledge why all other religions were wrong and why all other gods are fictitious.
2. I was also taught to believe that everything in the Bible is accurate and true. As I began my journey of leaving the Witness religion I began to learn things that made certain Bible events impossible. The Great Flood of Noah's Day is an example.
3. In recent years I have been to learn about the true origin of the Biblical Israel and Judaism. When I began learning that Israel was created by Babylonian captives who adopted Zoroastrian teaching to their Baal god El I knew that Judaism, the alleged precursor to Christianity was just like any other man-made religion. Add in the fact that Paul's letters to the Christian congregations of the first century predate the Gospels by nearly 40 years and that the Gospels were written decades after the alleged events in them took place you begin to see that Christianity is just another man-made religion as well.

Equality of outcome ...
by LoveUniHateExams in... in pol pot's cambodia.. .
the regime freed these people from inequality and an oppressive class system by changing them from being alive to being dead, and so they were all equally dead..

The number one man-made killer of people is government.
Fairness is in the eye of the beholder. Freedom is found in the market.

Dreading the new system of things
by Addison0998 inwas i the only one who secretly dreaded the new system of things a little bit when i was a believing witness?
of course i felt very guilty, because of all the sick and heartbroken people who needed a perfect world to live in.
but there are a lot of nice parts of life i was going to secretly miss.

I remember praying that Armageddon didn't come until the new Star Wars movies were released. Now I wish just the opposite.
I remember hearing all sorts of loony tunes things being said by Witnesses about the "New System". I know it is all fantasy now, but back then I would think to myself, "Don't you understand what life is going to be like? There will be no -
- Hot water
- Electricity
- Air conditioning
- Gas powered engines
- Grocery stores or restaurants
- Clothing stores
- etc."
I laugh when I see these Watchtower videos made for conventions showing everyone clean shaven and wearing clean, pressed, modern clothing. It will be more like medieval times, but with a meatless diet consisting of boiled vegetables. If that's "Paradise" please kill me at Armageddon Jehovah!

Forever in a world with garbage music like this? I'll pass. I'll take a normal human life span with some Zeppelin and Hendrix over this.

Movies that make you cry?
by new boy inthere have been many but i had a total melt down at the end of sophie's choice.
i hadn't cried in years before i saw that movie in in 1982. i was still very much a jw at the time.
i have no idea where the pain and sorrow came from, maybe it was the fact there are things people have gone through that we have defied all reason logic.

Can you ever see a time when Govt`s of this world will attempt to abolish all religions ?
by smiddy3 inwe are now in the 21st century of our common era with its insights into the potential of what can be achieved in the near future to benefit mankind for years to come .. the co-operation of governments around the world on so many levels has never been better than it is today and it is at least encouraging to see this .. whether it has to do with the climate , the environment ,food production ,safe water for all ,and the better health for all in the near future, and in the future space exploration.
however the problem today is still religion !
in its many extreme forms that divides us in no ways that politics divide us .. politicians learn how to compromise and work with their opponents for the greater good ,whereas religions don`t.. religions divide humans like no politicians ever did well not to the extremes religions will go anyway.. is their going to come a time in history when governments politicians say enough is enough and try attempt to abolish religion ?.
-
truth_b_known
No. However, I do see a time in which mankind will eventually abandon religion.
Think of all the religions that have gone to the wayside due to Christianity converting the masses. Now, Christianity is starting to wain. Islam seems to be on the incline as the new convert-or-die religion replacing Roman Imperial Christianity.

too many witnesses think they have a heavenly hope.

New Kingdom Halls will continue to be paid for by the members of the local congregation in full. Once built, each congregation will have to pay $10.00 per publisher on the rolls per meeting. As the WBTS owns the Kingdom Hall, if the congregations fail to consistently pay for the use of the Hall for each meeting, the WBTS will merge the congregation(s) that use the Hall with congregations that use a different Hall and then sell the vacant Kingdom Hall.
This just follows the Assembly Hall model already in practice.

I'm in the United States of America.
Since 2012 I have been assigned to a task force that locates and apprehends fugitives who committed violent crimes. Most my cases involve child sex crimes or assaults where deadly force/weapons were used. I have made entry into homes where these fugitives were hiding and found Watchtower literature prominently displayed throughout the house.
The Witness who robbed the gas station and tried to kill a police officer fled to Mexico. His Witness family here would wire him money (which he mostly used on cocaine and prostitutes). The Witnesses in the congregation he attended assisted him by picking up the wire transfers for him because we had those locations under surveillance.
