I believe the reversal on alternative service was the eye opener for me as well. I was a ministerial servant in my 20's at the time. I vividly remember the whispering about this at the Circuit Assembly.

Whether Jesus was a historical figure or not matters not
by venus inwhen i suffered some loss what jesus said came to my mind: “if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also.” (mathew 5:40) principle behind this statement made flash to me: ‘here shirt is only a symbol of material things/comfort.
if you suffer a loss, have the mind-set that i have no problem even if i suffer some greater loss,’ and my worry immediately disappeared.
whether jesus was a historical figure or not matters not if what he (supposedly) said happens to be of great practical help..

How do you feel when people quote an inspirational or lovely passage from the bible?
by stuckinarut2 ina thought occurred to us today about how christians, including witnesses love to quote some lovely passage of the bible as proof of god's love, or the value of the bible.. but just because a small passage or sentence is quoted doesn't mean the whole book is to be valued.. for instance, there may be a nice sentence or comment expressed in the passage of mein kampf, but would that make the book or it's author worthy of quoting or following?
the entire book and its message needs to taken into consideration!
(obviously that author had genocidal tendencies and disturbing ideas).

I noticed this began over decade ago. The literature cut back on Paradise propaganda because "We don't want people focusing on salvation, but rather developing a relationship with Jehovah."
You may recall that the cover to the "Knowledge" book was changed from a paradise painting to a mountain.

If you mean strictly a JW belief, the whole 1914 thing.
The Great Flood is a whopper.
The Bible is God's word. Remember, "All scripture is inspired and beneficial" and if "anyone takes away from the scroll...". Yet, the so-called "apochryphal" were deleted centuries after they were written. 367AD is when the canonical 66 books were decided upon.
