I was at home (before 1980). Actually now I'm glad. Doesn't sound like I missed much.

What TV shows were forbidden in your JW household?
by Funchback inin the u.s., three's company was not allowed.
it was explained to me that it was an immoral show because a man and women lived together and no one was married.
the sister who gave this observation was a family friend and we were newbies to the religion.. at least i somehow managed to watch the benny hill show undetected..

Best of Topics
by Simon insome people had a penchant for posting their topics directly into the "best of topics" area.
it seemed more than a little arrogant to me that some imagined their every utterance was immediately a greatest hit but maybe people weren't clear on what that area was intended for .... from now on you won't be able to start new topics there.
if anyone wants to submit a topic to be added there (perhaps an index to a curated list of other topics by a user or on a certain subject / theme) then just start one in "suggestions" and pm me and, if it is suitable, then i'll move it into there.. existing topics posted there recently have been moved to more appropriate areas..

Do todays Jw's care at all about Russell and the pyramid?
by olongapo joe injust wondering, as i will be visiting active jw family in ohio in a few weeks, do you think it will be worthwhile dropping it into a conversation, about the wtbts pyramid near his grave, or try some other topic to try and wake them up.
i was never baptized and don't really care if they get upset or not, but it is only a day trip from ohio to pittsburgh, and thought it would be fun if they denied it, and then drove their to see it for ourselves.

Does the WT attract needy dysfunctional type of people?
by William Penwell inin your personal experience, do you think that the wt attracts needy types of people?
over the years, my experience is that they do attract very needy, insecure, dysfunctional, types.
i had an acquaintance that i just basically cut off.

Yes, my observation also is that most newly baptised ones who are not born-ins are social misfits and are simply odd. Usually unemployed too. -

Admittedly, some of the young 20 somethings I know are having a blast right now in the JW religion, traveling all over the world to 'assignments', doing the need greater thing. Maybe they'll look back to this decade as the glory years. -

The decade of excitement and enthusiasm was 1966 to 1975, in my opinion. But I wasn't around in the pre 1914 days, I expect those were heady times. -

Women Chess players in Iran sponsored event are being forced to wear headcoverings. Right or Wrong?

all the women, whether muslim or not, are required to wear a headcovering.

Suppose Serena Williams played a tennis match in Iran and they made her were a head covering in order to compete. It would be ridiculous. As I see it, this is what is happening there. These women are all world class competitors and are quite famous in chess circles. They are not Iranian and are not Muslim. Maybe there is more to the story that will come out in time, but it really is odd.
