It is completely understandable that collecting physical things like cans of food, clothing, etc wouldn't do a lot of good, as the WT society doesn't have a way to transport those things halfway around the world. But the thrust of the letter is that if someone wants to donate some money specifically to the affected Witnesses in the Phillipines, the Society is saying they won't promise the money will get there. They will spend the money for whatever they want, though they seem to imply that if would be used for relief somewhere. But since there is no accountability, as Joe pointed out, one cannot be sure that any donation goes to relief.

by Gayle in"however, it would be appreciated if such donations are made without restrictions as to where and how the funds may be used.
" additionally, at this time, there is no need for donations of food, clothing, or other items.
if such needs arise in the future, you will be notified accordingly.

I any college student used the WT as a guide of how to reference quoted sources, he or she would undoubtedly fail. The WT Society just doesn't seem to understand that when you make a quotation, you must give the full citation with edition, page number etc.
Vine's is a standard reference work in English that has been printed and reprinted many times, and can still be purchased new. Of course nearly all reference works on the Bible were written by people who are or were members of the clergy in their respective religions.
The hypocrisy of the WT is that they will cherry-pick a quotation to support their point and refer to the source as a 'scholar', but then in another place will tear down that same person or the religion to which he belongs as Babylonish Christendom.

The accounts report in the local congregation was read for the month of October (midwest rural US).
130 pubs, about 100 attend most meetings, let's say 90 or so of those 100 attendees have a new bible.
They usually donate to the world wide word about 400-500 a month, but in October they donated 1300, so one can infer that they put in about 900 to cover the new Bible.
900/90 = $10, which is an estimate of how much each one in this congregation put in for the new NWT.
Of course there are other places and ways to make donations, but it gives an idea of the paltry amount most are putting in.

I know this was noted earlier:
but it was officially announced today that the School for Couples and the School for Single Brothers were being combined with the new twist that Single sisters would be allowed also. In addition, the age limits for all was increased to 65, with the stipulation that anyone between 50-65 were required to have their income and medical needs taken care of. All of any age would be required to be willing to go wherever the WT assigns them.
This is no longer a rumor, but is official.
I don't know whether this is good news or bad, in either case the WT society is changing tactics.

One observation:
The JWmobile does not appear to have sound. One of the main reasons the old sound cars were discontinued was that the Society lost a case in the US supreme court about them. The Court ruled that a city could pass an ordinance limiting the volume of amplification, and it was not an infringement of free speech. The effectively put the Sound Cars out of business.
About this van though, it looks like something they might take to a county fair or something like that.
