Suggesting that the system would last until 2000 would indicate a lack of faith. Suggesting that the system would last until 2018 would just make you seem bat-crazy. There was no scenario that would take this system until 2018.

2005 Big Announcement (Disappointment)
by Fred Franztone ini remember around 2005, there was an announcement made from the platform that in a few weeks time we would have to remain at the end of the sunday meeting for a big announcement, directly from the society.. i remember all the murmuring, people thought maybe this was going to be related to armageddon.
everyone was excited, people were speculating.
only the po in each congregation had any idea what was going on, and they were frequently pestered for information, but sworn to secrecy, which only hyped things up even more.. then the meeting came, anticipation was in the air, the announcement started, you could hear a pin drop.

I was out by 2005 so I missed this very special event. But your description was, I am sure, spot on.
A similar event happened in 1987 when they had a special announcement and reading of an official letter in response to the 1987 year of International Peace. We were told in advance of the special letter. After reading the letter they passed out a copy of the Peace and Security book. What an f&(^ing let down.

Work Colleague Went To a JW Funeral - His Experience
by pale.emperor inso the guy in my office on the desk next to me has just got back from the funeral of his wifes sister.
this was his first time in a kh and full on exposure to jwdom.. bit of background: the deceased jw was not a born in, she was a convert when she was in her teens.
she died last week at the age of 82. the poor old dear was still zealously knocking on doors while in ill health.

Fifty bucks says that the brother who eulogized her counted his time for the worldly people in attendance. Gotta report those hours to the mother ship.
Based on the details of this story it is possible that most, if not all, of the JW participants, were counting time.

quick question: Do JW's become U.S. Citizens?
by goingthruthemotions inso i know a person that just became a u.s. citizen.
he was explaining to me all the testing he had to go through and how he had to pledge allegiance to the united states.
he was happy as a barrel of monkeys.. so i got to thinking.

Sure, JWs are able to become citizens. There was an old Wt. that provided the justification. I know numerous JWs who became citizens.

I lost time living in the cult. My solution is to live longer to make up for last time.

Many people have less than perfect childhoods. But many of these same people find ways of moving beyond less than perfect pasts to have successful lives. The key to success is not using the past as an excuse - but finding opportunities within your present situation to move forward.

Dumbstruck!
by Lost in the fog ini am absolutely dumbstruck and lost for words.
one of the elders who criticised me over my use of social media rang me up to ask how i was doing.
after the usual blah-blah-blah i asked him if he had attended the recent elders one day school.

"Elders these days are so warm and inviting. We are not spiritual policemen looking into everything the publishers are doing. "
So, he had to learn this by going to school? And what do you mean "these days?" What has changed?

Professions in the Paradise
by The Real Edward Gentry inwe know there will be no money in paradise.
but there will almost certainly be jobs to do.
we will be perfect at our jobs but that doesn't mean we will be perfect at every job.

We will all be perfect so naturally,...
Can someone explain what is different in a perfect person compared to an imperfect one. I get the obvious (2 legs, 2 arms, 10 fingers, and etc.). But I guess there is more? As a perfect person, am I immune to all illnesses? If I touch a fire will I not burn? Will my teeth be so strong that I can bite a nail? Are cavities a thing of the past? What if I decide to avoid brushing my teeth for many decades? Will my teeth still remain perfect? Does my IQ increase as a perfect person? What happens to a perfect person's libido? Is perfection better than viagra (I hope so)? What if I write a book, will I write with perfect grammar and syntax? These are just a few of the many questions I have about how different I will be in paradise.

What you see is what you get. There are no do-overs. This life is not a dress rehearsal for something better.
So, cherish every moment you are alive. You will dead much longer than you will be alife.
