I always loved the expectation of a big announcement. Growing up a witness I don't know how many times I was lead to believe there was something big just around the corner. With no exception I was always disappointed - always. But perhaps this time it really will be something big... -

While a young child we had a DF sister in the congregation who continued to go out in service. I doubt that she turned in her time but there was no doubt that she was crazy.

Do you believe Jehovah's Witnesses' Governing Body is the "faithful slave"?
by Marvin Shilmer inthis question is known to be posed by jws to other jws as an acid test of loyalty.
i'm not the first to notice what i'm about to point out and comment accordingly, but today i felt compelled to add a short article on my blog highlighting the new language that governing body member geoffrey jackson supplies as a response.
a person who honestly hesitates to respond with a robust "yes!

It is too bad that Mr Stewart did not follow up with Jackson's comment. I was disturbed by Jackson's comment - Now after reading, even more so.

GEOFFREY JACKSON THE PERSONABLE FACE OF JW.ORG...BUT IT AIN'T OVER YET BUDDY
by steve2 insince geoffrey jackson's appearance before the australian royal commission on friday there has for some been an expressed feeling of anticlimax.
it is as though he was given too much latitude to preach, to claim ignorance and to skirt questions.
more to the point, as much as i myself thought i would never have expected to say this, gj actually came across as likeable and - don't throttle me please!

This is a marathon. I agree with the comment that these proceedings change the strategy for all future court cases. For example, do you think that Monica Applewhite's career will ever recover after this? Her days of expert witnessing are over. -

Geoffrey Jackson: "That would be presumptuous of us"...
by Calebs Airplane inwithin the first few minutes, mr. stewart asked geoffrey jackson if the members of the governing body consider themselves to be god's spokesperson on earth.. his response: "that would be presumptuous of us" (implying that they don't consider themselves to be god's sole channel of communication).. to me, that was the worst lie of about 26 lies he's told during this hearing.
however, mr. stewart missed an opportunity to call out mr. jackson on this bold-faced lie.
he should have asked him to explain why the watchtower magazine teaches otherwise.

Having him describe the religion makes it sound even more goofy. -

Royal Commission... Monty Baker?
by Marvin Shilmer ini see a former elder by the name of monty baker on the royal commission's witness list.
transcripts show a lawyer representing monty baker during the hearings, but so far i see no transcript where monty baker has testified before the commission.
am i missing something?

It is there. Mostly very objective comments. It clear he has not totally disengaged from his past. -

As was stated - the whole concept of being "most accurate" is extremely subjective. -

Australian RC - Hot topic
by punkofnice ini have listened to segments of the hearing.. i am really impressed with the way the rc are well informed about jw procedure and the 'flock book'.. does anyone know how the rc got so clued up?
are they just that good at what they do?
(not saying they're not).. have 'mentally diseased apostates(tm)' been of use to the rc?.

I am very impressed with the homework these people did. One of the criticisms that a JWs makes when an outsider speaks about the religion is that they don't understand the language and culture. The RC absolutely has a handle on the JW-speak.
Do you notice how they as questions in such a professional and non-judgmental perspective. The example that comes up is their questioning of Applewhite about elders being appointed by holy spirit. They knew the literature They also knew how to as questions with no indication that they had an opinion about the subject matter. Those skills don't happen by accident.
