They are afraid of success. If you are successful it means you are not working hard enough in the "truth." -

I went to college while serving as an elder. The key to my success was not broadcasting what I was doing. You will be surprised how little people care, as long as you don't tell no one will ask.
There is no reason why you couldn't manufacture 90 hours a month while going to college.

You would never be able to give a public talk at the KH using PowerPoint. But the good thing about giving public talks is that you get to count your time. You should post your PP on YouTube. I would love to see them. -

I just wanna know WHY ! ! ??
by brandnew ini just wanna know why...after a thousand dang years, jehovah would even want to think about lettin go of the dude who started it all....satan.

A thousand years is yet a day - or something like that. God is an underachiever. He will get to it, just not today... -

Exposing one's identity. When?
by kairos ini've been toying with the idea of just coming out and posting my name and location as an attempt to be available to locals that secretly browse the forum that have known me for up to 25 years.
( "reaching out", so to speak ).
i'm not da'd or df'd, so this most certainly could end in a dramatic confrontation.

The concern of "coming out" relates to how you name will show up on a random internet search. I have no problem identifying myself as an ex JW. I just don't do so in a way that it will show up in an internet search. -

Excuses to miss the meeting that won't raise suspicion of a fade
by kairos inthe first step to fading is to begin missing the meetings.. "if" anyone misses you, a quality excuse must be at the ready.
this will produce empathy toward you as opposed to suspicion.. 1. car problems ( don't mention that you caused them ).
2. stuck on the phone resolving insurance, billing, etc issues.. 3. sick ( of the meetings ).

Good excuses, and if you throw in the phrase "I suffer from depression" you are home free.
Be sure to say that "I suffer from depression" as opposed to saying "I am depressed."
In the first example you are defining a medical condition. By simply saying "I am depressed" the elders will encourage you to do more field service. You may end up a pioneer, which is not the plan.

Regarding Dates---Have The Witnesses Ever Been Correct On Any Of Them?
by minimus ini can't think of any chronology that has not been changed.
even their "absolute" dates are suspect.

VI, good post. Of course they weren't correct on guessing WW1. The connection of the war to the date only occurred much later. What we have related to the date and the organization is - good marketing. They were masters of the spin. -

Mom says, "CO says there's only 15 years left!"
by Separation of Powers ini don't typically hear from my mom often, but i tell you, over the past couple of weeks, i have heard from her several times.
you heard the comment about "our way of worship will be altered" and thank you for your posts by the way....but yesterday, she calls and is asking about the kids and then, in typical jw fashion mind you, says:.
"you know, you should really get back to meetings.

StrongHaiku: "They are chasing the loss and can't walk away from the table."
Great description of what is taking place with the old timers. Unfortunately they will chase their losses to their grave. It is a wasted life. But once it is over there is nothing you can do.

Wait a minute. In 15 years I will be over 70. I was not supposed to finish high school before the end comes. I never heard anyone project more than 3-5 years. This 15 year thing is hard to digest. They must not have much confidence in their own prophesies.
