My grandmother was a cousin of Grover Cleveland. She never met him though.
My mother is a 3rd cousin to one of Princess Diana's great grandmothers.
One of my ancestors was Samson Occum, the first Native American Christian minister in an Indian nation. Whoo woo!!
Oh, and my great grandfather, Charles Strong, was the Mayor of Red Bluff, California in the 20's I think. Another, Whoo woo!
onthewayout has a current thread about a slow fade, and i have read many others that are similar.
i do not understand how fading slowly vs. fading very quickly has any different consequences.
and i mean whether an elder or pioneer or not.
We did a slow fade, hoping to keep our friends and family.
We had children that were still attending (all are out now) and my mother is also a devoted JW. Just not wanting to rock too many boats at the same time, we slowly faded away.
It worked for us. It was 10 years ago that we went to our last meeting, after almost a two year fade. We are not disfellowshipped and the JW's still talk to us, except for a few who act as if we are invisible. I kept my best friend of 36 years too.
this was always a mystery to me.
A city overseer (same as city servant.........new name) was the overseer in charge, so to speak, of all the congregations in his city.

Meeting our youngest son at Sears, for their baby's photo shoot (he is 18 months old, almost), then our oldest grandson's birthday party in the afternoon. Big family bash. He is 13.
okay i doubt it but thought it worth a try - when me and hubby were just the 2 of us we used to go to a greek island once or twice a year (sigh i miss it) but my two all time favorite dishes were greek.
i have tried to look in internet for recipes but they all seem to differ.

while the author's writing style is pedantic and he seems to be too full of himself, he makes some very interesting points about religion.
i'm about half way through.
I read it last month and it is a good read. I loved it.
My husband is reading it now and he laughs about it every day, and wonders how we didn't see these things before.
Of course, we weren't ready to see them.
we have had company (ex jw's) from england, for six days and they left early this morning to go home.. it was a great week.
they met our entire family, we went camping, a day trip to the san juan islands, and it was so much fun.
it was like a six day party.. and...........except for some funny stories about conventions in the 60's, we didn't even talk about having been jw's.

i have one and use it for both wet and dry.
it gets pricey since you have to keep buying the cloths.. a couple of weeks ago i was in sears and they were having a demonstration of a swiffer type mop but you didn't have to throw awy the cloths.
simply remove from the cloth and throw it in the washer.
Thanks, Lee. That's good to know. I use my Swiffer all the time on the wood floors and you're right, replacing the cloths can get costly.
I saw one of the micro fiber mops on QVC yesterday and thought it was such a good idea, but it was $30, so I didn't buy it. I didn't think about just putting the cloths on the Swiffer. I will do that.
i am starting to think about the joyous season already - i know, i know, i am way too early.
it is still summer in the northern hemisphere, school has only just gotten started, and the leaves haven't even turned yet.
still - i suppose i have catching up to do.
I agree.............never too early to talk Christmas. The home shopping network shows have had Christmas stuff for about two weeks.
The only think I don't like is that it's Winter. I prefer warm weather. We rarely get snow, but that would be great at Christmas time, as long as my whole family can get to the celebrations without too much difficulty.
I have been thinking about gifts and setting aside the money for some time.

me, i'm in probably one of the most hated careers in america right now.
(not gonna tell you what it is either) but how about you, what do you do to earn a little coin?.
My career is wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker, etc.
For a job, I am the bookkeeper for our family business. It took me forever to learn how to use QuickBooks, but I finally figured it out with the help of an accountant.
I also do a little internet marketing of nutritional products from my website.
