I have attended a few Christian churches in my area. I told my daughter I'd like to just start my own bible study group. She thinks it is a good idea. Mouthy how do you go about starting a group up. I'm also thinking about talking to Christian churches about the dangers of the witnesses and how to witness to witnesses, I feel like I need to help someone.

Have you joined another religion?
by freedom96 ini don't think i will never join another organized religion.
that being said however, i have enjoyed going on occasion to non-denominational churches, watching the band play music, and the speaker.
if you did or would attend another church regularly, which one would you go to and why?

Do You Think That You're Smart?
by minimus inafter reading some posts on this forum, it is easy to see that some people here are extremely gifted.
some write beautifully.
some arguments are brilliant, too.

I'm probably above average. I was a A-B student w/o studying in school so I think that is probably above average. I don't know that it has gotten me very far though I was a slave for 15 years to the Borg. So If I fell into that how smart could I really be! Maybe I'm really below average and just have a too big of an ego to admit that I'm really not so bright.

ADVICE NEEDED
by Mary ini need some advice on this one: a friend of mine who is still an active jw called me today all freaked out because another friend of hers, who only got baptized this summer, wants to leave "the truth".
this is because she's been talking to "worldly" people and they've almost got her convinced that the religion is a cult.. .
my girlfriend, sarah says of course, that this is "satan" trying to blind her, etc.

Tell her the truth but a piece at a time. She may be more willing to accept things. If you tell her too much she will put up the wall and it's all over. Get the other girl aside and tell her to run and don't look back.

At first they (17 &14) were very upset and cried and were praying for me. Then once I got them to listen to logic and they realized it wasn't the "truth" they are so happy to be FREE. My daughter had her first birthday this last summer, we are looking forward to our first Christmas. Oh yeah my son won 1st place at the school for the most Goulish Halloween costume last week.

Describe Your "STATUS" In The Congreg...
by minimus inif you were to describe what your status was in the congregation, what would it be?
were you viewed as mature?
in "good standing", a pain in the rear?

I was Sister not submissive. Too outspoken some of the meeker sister were intimidated by me, the Elders were in fear of me because I was not stupid and if I didn't agree with them I told them. By husband was considered Brother not taking the lead in his family because he couldn't control his outspoken wife. I was never considered weak because I was very regular at meetings and always went out in service regularly and always commented at the meetings.

What Was The 1st Thing That Made You Question?
by minimus inas a youngster raised in the "truth", i had my questions.
but anytime you ask a question that is unanswerable, you are told to just wait on jehovah.
as time passes, i believe that we store up a number of unanswerable questions that forces one to eventually think about everything.

I was doing research on the fall of Babylon 607BCE for a talk and I stumbled onto a website 587vs607BCE. I thought I was being studious looking up info on the fall of Babylon. I read the info on the site and then checked his resources/quotes etc. That was the beginning of the END for me. Then I started reading my bible w/o the WT literature and my eyes were truly opened.

Women Only, Please.
by Robdar inhas anybody on the forum ever had a hysterectomy?
i am getting one this winter.
i am scared shitless.

I had a hysterectomy at 30 years of age (uterus and ovaries), after a long battle of endometriosis. I'm 39 now and I would do it again in a heartbeat! The best thing I ever did. I do take Estrace 1mg. No surgery is fun to recover from just allow yourself time to heal and don't try to do things to fast afterwards

After-meeting conversations
by Gopher into be able to properly "encourage one another, more so as you behold the end drawing near", we as jw's were instructed to do the following: .
(1) stay after the meeting for "upbuilding association", and .
(2) rather than talk about mundane things of life, discuss the finer points of the meeting just held.

Oh thats what we were suppose to be talking about......My conversations were more like....
Can we get the kids together and go skating a movie etc. What have you been up to....same old stuff work etc. they would usually tell about various aches and pains as to why they might have missed the last meeting god forbid.
I do remember this one gal...she was a few short of a full deck and she would always talk about how she looked forward to the paradise and that she was going to see the Giraffes and how she loved Giraffes and that they give birth standing up. My daughter and her friend use to go up to her and say Hi and then place a bet as to how long it would take this woman to start talking about giraffes. They would then try to get away from her and bust up laughing later telling me about it.

Did anyone really ever study?
by freedom96 ini know we were taught to study all the wts stuff.
prepare for each meeting, prepare for service, (gotta know the articles) etc.
i mean with all the personal study to do, how could anyone have time for newspapers, novels etc.

No I could not bring myselft to read something and then disect it. I read pretty fast and have excellent comprehension so If I read over the info before going over it it was pure torture to endure an hour of commenting on what I already read and understood. I would get counseled for not preparing and when my kids were young and I needed to get them answers I would do this during the meeting so I had something to do.
