Did you hear your Disfellowship Announcement ?

i got this topic from another forum .

when i was in my judicial committee (2009); after the decision came to disfellowship me one elder asked "pitchess are you gonna be there to hear your announcement .

now i said "no i'm moving 75 miles north of los angeles " ( they tried to get me to stay, but thats another topic ).

Pitchess - I was an elder for a number of years and yes they want you to be there because they feel it shows a repentant attitude. It could help in getting reinstated faster if you stick with it, but there are so many variables and every judicial committee is different. Some may make you wait til hell freezes over and others will make you wait til it almost freezes over lol.

But I'm glad you are out that's what matters- you are FREE. When I was a new elder I remember my first JC and the other two elders wanted to DF a young brother for smoking a joint and it seemed that it was too harsh. Well they wouldn't budge and after 30 minutes of trying to convince me I thought I was doing the right thing by going along with them... For awhile I came to think that I had done a terrible thing because I knew he didn't deserve to be DFed, but in the long run he has been benefited. He is a "normal" guy today, looks after his mom (who's still in) and is happy.

need advice to free family

my family and me havent talked in over a year since i found out about the cult.. yesterday my mother texted me that she misses me and she loves me.

short message.. yesterday my sister also texted me to ask how i am.

also short message.. now, i am an apostate and they are not allowed to talk to me.

I had some success reasoning w a family member on what an "apostate" really is. There is some good info here:

But they may not listen at all...Love and persistence is the best thing you can do. Send them a letter, card, email, txt, from time to time. And don't stop. Every few weeks do it again. And again. And again. Let them know what you are doing, tell them how you feel in positive and upbuilding lines of thought. They will read them and they will see that you are doing well and that you have not stopped loving them.

Only my opinion- hang in there.

Shepherding Call Coming Up

well, my wife and i are supposed to be visited by a couple of elders soon, as part of a "regular shepherding program".

i am a ministerial servant in our congregation and our circuit overseer has been busting the boe's chops each visit lately for not having a program in place for shepherding.

it was previously done on an "as needed" basis, but i guess he cracked the whip pretty hard on this last visit so they are going to try to get down to business.

Does anyone recognize this ex-JW testimony from WNFJ convention?

i'm trying to find the testimony of a lady who spoke years ago at the witness now for jesus convention (i believe in pennsylvania).

she mentioned that her husband (i assume not a witness) came out as a homosexual during the years the org did not consider such to be grounds for divorce.

the elders advised her she didn't have grounds for divorce.

I've actually organized large events before- but being on the west coast and having to still sneak around makes it hard for me to do as much I want on this.

But I would definitely be happy to help someone organize or advertise this and keep it going for future years.

Crossing a WT line- giving "apostate" literature to my friend

i had to do it- i gave my asleep jw friend a flash drive yesterday with ray's books, info on 607 vs 587, etc.

he knows i have "doubts" and that i've read these books but he has been cool about it and had already said he wouldn't rat me out.. so i figured i would take the next step now and give him the knowledge and see if he looks into it.

this is a lot more tangible evidence and if it fell into the wrong hands they would have plenty of evidence to try and df me but i don't worry any longer, they're only men.. keep your fingers crossed lol....

@DOC - Theocratic war strategy at its finest.

There's a cool line in the show Big Love (the last season) where Bill Paxton tells an LDS man something to the effect, "You and I both know that our forefathers in the Mormon Church told lies and prevarications to the heathen to obscure our true purpose and that this is an established way of doing business among the church to this day."

@Noni - You are a sharp cookie and I thank you for that. I did not realize the guy took one twitter and then built the whole article around it I thought it was Ebert's story and should have read it more closely.
