My sister's decision to ex-communicate me, just might rock the boat!

it was 11 days after i received the email from my sister, informing me that she is no longer going to communicate with me.. i was never a jw, so i don't fully comprehend this decision, nor do i understand the games jw's play.. i talked to my mom yesterday, and she (baptized within last year) is getting more and more fed up with the nonsense.

she has been trying to get everyone to come together, and she is seeing more and more extreme behavior from my sister and her husband.

my mom is blaming my brother in law, but my sister has clearly spoken up and said she is speaking for herself also.

I am sorry you have to go through this. Hope your mother fully wakes up.

You may help her by talking about the parable of the good Samaritan. You know the Jews were supposed to shun the Samaritans but Jesus used the Samaritan as an example of a good neighbor. The priest and the Levite didn't bother to help the man who was robbed and beaten, but it was the Samaritan that went above and beyond the call of duty. So who was the better person?

Also, the Samaritan woman was the first person Jesus identified himself to as the Messiah. Ask her to think about that.

JW's do not follow Jesus' example of not shunning anyone.

Were People Surprised When You Left The Witnesses?

mine was a gradual going away.

but once it dawned on them, i think people were shocked that i left the religion i espoused from youth.. were people "in the truth" and "in the world" surprised by your departure?.

Yes, I was born in andleft at the age of 57. I would say pretty shocking!

only rational thoughts are accessible to rational arguments.

once the category of "god" is established in your mind (usually at an early, impressionable age) you can't ever close the file.. it is unassailable.. why?because it becomes rooted before you develop rational thinking skills.. categories of ghosts, devils, superstitions hold true as well.. what you can do (since they cannot be removed) is modify your emotional reactions connected to these concepts.. what are emotions?

they are signals (like beacons) informing you of the importance of your values.. the most deeply-rooted values signal the strongest emotional responses.. what you perceive to be a threat signals fear.

sometimes it is the place to be and i think that's especially true for newbies.

Simon, I think more stress on the search feature would be good. So many of the older posts are so fantastic and they would be of great help to newbies.

This site just about saved my life...this and jwfacts and some you tube videos...but I do not want to hijack this thread.

I have been here just a little over three years. This site hastaken the place of my so called "friends" the Kingdom Hall.

My little sister

my little sister is 14 years younger than me.

she was always special to me, i took care of her, when my mother was working, i carried her around, i comforted her.

we are very similar in our interests for music and literature.. she is in secondary school, an unbaptised publisher.. since i study in the us, we only see each other about once a year.

She is in secondary school so that means she is a teenager now. She may be is influenced by her JW friends and may be getting baptised and feels she needs to do this. More questions than answers at this point.

The Bible also says when Jesus returns that every eye would see him. The dubs say they were the only ones who noted Jesus second coming.

How can both be correct? They cannot.

i could go on and on about my personal journey over the last 2 years or so, but i don't need to.

everything i needed to hear to finally lay my doubts to rest happened on one meeting night.

So let me get this straight...Jehovah God put the idea of a translating software system into the minds of the men who worked for The Watchtower Society so they could preach lies in even more languages throughout the inhabited earth? Why would he do that?

Hubby went out in service today.

i can't believe hubby and sis in law actually went out in service today.

when he left this morrning i reminded him to inform those who didn't slam their doors on them that if they join your cult that this will be the last christmas, holiday and birthday they will be allowed to celebrate.

i thought it very inapproiate going out today to knock on doors trying to get converts..

I think it would indeed save the witnesses a great deal of time if they taught about the disfellowshipping, the shunning, the wardrobe/grooming police, the pedophilia and blood issue right on the first visit. That way they wouldn't be wasting time studying with anyone.
