Did you Fade Gradually or Stop Attending Meetings Quickly ? Reasons ?
by flipper inbeen thinking about this and curious about what makes us all come to the decisions we came to in our fade/exiting the jw organization.. i think for myself having been born-in & raised a jw my doubts about the generation doctrine had simmered for years within me quietly and by the time i finally left in 2003 i had reached my breaking point.
also seeing unjust treatment of rank & file witness ( myself included ) just propelled me into my decision even quicker.
so - one day after meeting with 3 elders in a back room before a meeting and seeing their judgmental aggression towards me - i just told myself " enough is enough ".

Friedman's "Who really wrote the bible"
by bohm inyesterday i began reading friedmans "who really wrote the bible" and it is a deeply satisfying experience.
i was looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the book, in particular, i am very interested in how it conflict with the typical wt explanation of how the bible came to be (which i find very confusing; i think its very hard to figure out how, exactly, the wt view the history of this periode), how usefull it has been in terms of reasoning with jws, and experiences in general.. to kickstart, here is what the book has given me:.
i have generally looked at the bible in a way i now see as quite naive, namely as a collection of more or less conflicting stories that made very little sence.

The Powerful Trend No One Comments On
by metatron ini happen to work with a number of 20 - 30 year olds and i am stunned by the overwhelming social/tech trend that has emerged among them:.
the obsessive - minute to minute use of electronic devices (i. e. 'smartphones, i phones, and the like').
these people are so intensely addicted that they can't stay away for more than a few minutes and keep using them during critical functions at work.

Jehovah's Witnesses: Beneath the Tower of Fear (Video)
by leavingwt invia free minds.
"watch this compilation of watchtower images and comments by circuit overseer charles sunutko to see how the watchtower organization controls its followers through the "fear" of armageddon.
they say that if you are not in the organization of jehovah's witnesses you will die a horrible death at the hands of a very angry jehovah at armageddon.".

Reading "Darwin on Trial": meh!
by bohm inafter wading through the crap and speculations on aig, i desided to read a "real" book which was critical of evolution.
i desided on darwin on trial by phillip e.johnson because i have seen it recommended here and it was positively recommended on amazon.. if anything, reading it confirm two things: creationism does not get better in book-form, and more importantly, creationist claims does not age well.
having been interested in bird evolution before, i desided to take it as an example.

I'm not that important to Jehovah? Well, damn. Now I see the WBTS stance.
by easyreader1970 inlast night during the bible highlights, the brother (an insane and extreme zealot of an elder) said that people cannot expect jehovah to communicate with his servants directly anymore.
not because it wasn't part of his plan, nor because he has the all powerful and all knowing governing body in place, but because we really just aren't that important.
not important enough to warrant one one one communication.

Random chance or design?
by goddidit ini don't read too much jw material because it's pretty much all the same old rubbish and the constant lies and propaganda drives me nuts.. however, i've noticed a common theme with the 'argument from design' articles.
you know, look at the eye, isn't it complex, evolution is wrong, blah blah.
all the ones i've seen end in a question like "what do you think, is this a product of random chance or design?".

Challenges Facing the Watchtower Org
by eric356 inive been thinking about the future of the watchtower organization and the challenges it faces in coming decades.
its difficult to address the issue without allowing personal feelings affect the analysis.
many people seem to think that the society will collapse fairly soon, based mostly on the fact that the person dislikes the leadership or cant understand how others can believe the doctrine.
