This thread is a good reminder of the devastating consequences the GB's erroneous teachings and policies can have on the people who trust them the most.

Useing unhealthy fear to force people to obey.
by Yomama infear of being shunned.
do you have any stories?.

The whole WT system is driven by fear, especially JWs' fears of not proving worthy even after years of dedicated service.
Faithful for so long and now maybe blowing it right before Armageddon...
Obey, obey, obey!

Just wanting confirmation on an unofficial JW experience
by joe134cd injust wondering if anyone can confirm or deny this unofficial jw experience that my father received by email.
i’ve told him that it against wt rules to forward unofficial accounts.
but of course he just puts that down to apostate driven lies.

It reminds me of those little "at the door" skits at the KH where the householder listens with rapt attention to the whole spiel and then cheerfully thanks the dubs for coming and bringing her the message.
Never once did they tell the JWs to get lost and slam the door shut.

Even after promoting more false prophetic dates than anyone else I know of, they still can't resist telling us all what we should believe about Bible prophecy.

Letter writing question
by carla inso the jw's are no longer goind d2d but instead are writing letters- my question is what return address are they putting on the letters?
their own or the kh?
the kh's in our area have no mailbox and therefore no mail can be delivered or returned to a kh.. thanks in advance!.

I thought independence of the organization was evil.
It's just the opposite as far as the borg's lawyers are concerned.
In the event of a lawsuit (such as the Conti case), the GB wants the local JWs to be seen as independent volunteers rather than as agents of the organization.
Allowing publishers to write letters using the Society's address would be seen as evidence that they are acting as agents of the organization in what they do.
Can't have that!
The whole thing is ironic and hypocritical, given the vast control the GB exercises over Witnesses' lives: "Do everything we tell you to do the way we tell you to do it, but if you get into trouble doing it, you're on your own because you're just an independent volunteer."

Bringing Reproach on Jehovah's Name
by cofty inall my jw life i was reminded constantly about the importance of not bringing reproach on jehovah's name.
decisions on whether or not to disfellowship an individual often turned, not on the seriousness of the sin, but on whether the incident was public knowledge and had resulted in bad publicity for the congregation.
i recall a middle-aged lady being reported to the elders for shoplifting a sweet worth less than £1- and the elders' insistence that a judicial committee must be formed because the store manager and staff knew that she was a jw (i successfully argued that all she needed was support for her dreadful family life, but that's another story).

When the organization is hated because of organizational policies and practices, that's categorized as persecution by the world rather than as bringing reproach on the name of Jehovah.
Massive double standard...

I believe Walter Martin used to refer to those bags as "a portable ammunition dump of Watchtower theology."

Can you imagine what the GB meeting must have been like when someone first proposed the overlapping generations idea?

Why do Jehovah's Witnesses avoid examining their own religion? An interesting read from Scientific American Magazine.
by Balaamsass2 infor a long time, i thought pimi (physically in, mentally in) jws were unique in their inability to simply type and read the latest "google" news results about "jehovah's witnesses " or "watchtower".
however, it appears it is not uncommon for a large portion of the population purposefully to avoid facts...on purpose!
"why do people avoid facts that could help them?.

Vanderhoven7,
I can't count how many times I've heard JWs say they don't need to examine their religion because they've already thoroughly investigated it and know that it's the truth.
When I've asked them to give me details of the investigation they did, the conversation ends quickly.
I think it was Don Cameron who said that if JWs had truly investigated the history of their organization they would never have joined.
