i'm a born in, born in the 1980s and old enough to remember studying beefy (albeit full of crap) material like the the evolution book and revelation book (which we studied over and over and over and over).

books and brochures were wordy and chock full of legalistic language explaining away teachings and policies, some explanations slightly above the iq of the average person.. watchtower studies were longer (30 paragraphs sometimes), talks were longer and thus meetings were longer, pioneering was harder (70 hours if i remember correctly), assemblies and conventions were longer, and there were intricate food provisions to feed thousands of people (for a cost of course).. the average jw could recite watchtower propaganda for hours to indoctrinate others or defend their faith.

jws were interested in having meaty discussions at the door and challenging even pastors on doctrinal points.. i know this has been said many times, but the organization has gone through a massive dumbing down.. i can't figure out if it's due to the oblivious nature of the current governing body, a premeditated attempt by them at dumbing down the organization, or just the effects of life becoming easier around the globe due to reliance on technology.. i can only speak on my era, and i know that from the early 90s until around 2004 the organization was allot more doctrine savy.. over the past decade or so i'd say the collective iq of the followers has moved from 105 to 85.. indoctrination and blind belief has allot to do with being prone to be emotionally manipulated, but thinking ability has a say in that too.. social media is a decent gauge of how and what the average person within a certain demographic is thinking, and doing a simple hashtag search on twitter, instagram, or facebook reveals allot about how the current generation of young jws (15-28 or thereabout) are thinking.. many have become self obsessed, internet obsessed, hubris filled and passive, i can see an even bigger decline in growth over the next 5 years.. take a look:.

One of the big problems is that wt demands

that they not think critically & says n ot to research,

they will do it for them. So being a bit lazy, they

take the line of least resistance ...& just say OK!!!!

feeling like a true apostate today

it was back in 2011 when i was convinced that jws dont have the truth.

i rejected so many teachings and was open about that to members of my family.

it took me another year to pluck up the courage to attend other churches.

Looking for details about the Org , property ownership and not a religion in Mexico

Do Witnesses still go door-to-door??

just wondering if they still go door-to-door?

i never see groups of people walking around the neighborhoods all dressed up or out in fastfood restaurants on saturday mornings or groups of people driving around in cars.

My feeling is that, it is pretty rare to see them walking

around the neighborhood knocking on doors!

They stand on the sidewalks now, with a stand or

sort of like a rolling book shelf now. They talk mostly

to each other......as they stand back from this contraption!

Oh ...and you have be "special" to do this hard work, and

be picked and sent out. Mostly "pioneers" are the special

ones!

hi guys, i don't really post on here much anymore, having been on here since 2001. this site helped me out in the early days and has been a great support system for all of my past jw issues.

like many others i was discouraged from an education so that i could window clean and pioneer in my youth during the 80's.

having spent many years post my jw exit in alcoholism and periods of drugs, i decided to clean myself up 7 years ago by attending aa, i was still a window cleaner ... at the time i wrote extensively on here about my issues.

One of the problems is that when we make a new

friend, we relax and just want to let out all our pain

& frustration of our past. Mistake #1.......

All this pain & frustration needs to be told to someone

who understands what the hell you are talking about!!!

Normal people are leary of religious nuts! We were RN's.

Relax and enjoy being with the "worldlies" and do not feel

obligated to 'spill the beans' all over yourself. Stay quietly

listening to the conversation & just ask a lot of questions,

people love to tell you all about their lives etc.... Got it?
