MURFREESBORO — A Portland, Ore., woman accused of raping her two children when she lived here more than 10 years ago could face more charges as a Murfreesboro Police Department investigation unfolds.

Angela Montgomery, 50, was charged by Murfreesboro Police Detective Wayne Lawson in late August with the crime, after her two children gave the detective “detailed statements” about rapes and sexual assaults they had suffered at the hands of their mother when they lived on South Kings Highway.

Lawson began what became a more than eight-month-long investigation when he was approached by Montgomery’s two children, a 21-year-old man and 15-year-old girl, back in mid-January.

“The victims advised the events occurred approximately 10 years ago .... when they lived on South Kings Highway,” Lawson reported. “After several months of reviewing records and past statements, warrants were obtained on Ms. Montgomery for two counts of child rape with more charges pending.”

Montgomery turned herself into the jail Aug. 21 after Lawson obtained those warrants, according to a booking officer at the Rutherford County jail.

Her bond was set at $10,000, and she posted the required 10 percent on that same day.

    End of that article.

On December 7, 2012 the following article appeared in the Nashville Tennessean reporting on Montgomery's inditement:

MURFREESBORO — A mother accused of raping her two children multiple times when she lived here more than 10 years ago was indicted by a grand jury this week on 38 sexually-based offenses.

Indictments issued against Angela Elizabeth Montgomery, now of Portland, Ore., show police have identified two new victims in the case, and that investigators have evidence Montgomery tried to coerce two witnesses during the Murfreesboro Police Department’s investigation into her alleged criminal activities.

Montgomery, who is now 50, was indicted this week on 20 counts of child rape, six counts of rape and 12 counts of incest. She also faces two counts of coercing a witness to a crime, according to court documents.

She was initially charged with two counts of child rape by Murfreesboro Police Detective Wayne Lawson in late August, after her two children gave the detective “detailed statements” about rapes and sexual assaults they suffered at the hands of their mother when they lived in Murfreesboro more a decade ago.

New charges returned by the grand jury indicate Montgomery may have committed more sexual crimes against at least two other children as recently as 2009. Three of the victims in the case have the same last name, court documents show.

Lawson launched his investigation in mid-January of this year after two of Montgomery’s children, now a 21-year-old man and 15-year-old girl, approached him with information on her actions.

Montgomery turned herself into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center Aug. 21, after Lawson obtained warrants for her arrest on two counts of child rape.

She was freed from the jail on $10,000 bond shortly after she was booked.

Police said at that time they were suspecting more charges and more victims to come forward in the case.

MPD spokesman Kyle Evans, when contacted about the possibility of even more victims on Friday, said the department doesn’t typically discuss ongoing criminal prosecutions once the adjudication process has begun.

An attempt to reach Montgomery for comment Friday afternoon was unsuccessful.

She is scheduled to appear in Rutherford County Circuit Court Dec. 17 for an arraignment.

    End of that article

Well, Montgomery's trial starts on September 2nd and will continue until the 5th and it will probably be one of those events that most of us wish we never heard of after the trial is over because the testimony will be so disturbing. First of all, Montgomery did unspeakable things to her four children. Secondly, she is and has been an active Jehovah's Witness since 1991 and pioneered often.

Wow! A trial to watch! Wished I lived there, I'd go to the court to see it.

I wonder how many JWs come to court to support her? They usually pack the courthouses to support JW's accused of pedophilia. Dress up all nice, and everything. Try to show that the accused is an outstanding person. I love it when the Witlesses do that. Makes them look like the cult they are. Scientology does that too, pack the courthouse to show solidarity. Just makes the religion and followers look even crazier. I bet the judges just roll their eyes when the Scientologists or JWs pack the courthouse. LOL.

    Frightening.

Do you know if she is still "in good standing"? Or has she been DF'ed by now?

And of course, the million dollar question: How much did the elders in her congregation know, and when did they know it?

This is such a weird case of pedophilia. Women who are caught sexually abusing children are usually either being coerced by a male partner or are in in love with an older teen. Very few women sexually molest their own children of their own volition. It will be interesting to see what comes out at trial.

Oh, that is so sad and tragic for what the children were subjected to but fantastic news that they have the courage to go straight to the police. It is also great that the police took the two complainants very seriously and investigated, given that the accused is a female (and their mother). It will be instructive to see what the local Witnesses' response is.

    MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

A young Rutherford County man said his mother committed unspeakable crimes, and no one believed him until 10 years after the fact.

When Alan's parents got divorced, he said his mother, Angela Montgomery, would do terrible sexual things to him, his two brothers and sister when they would visit.

Channel 4 News has chosen not to use Alan's full name to protect his younger siblings.

"I think she is a sociopath," Alan said. "She doesn't feel guilt or remorse. As long as she gets her kicks, she doesn't care who she hurts."

Alan said he first told the Department of Children's Services what his mother was doing to him in 1997, when he was 8 years old.

"I was terrified, not only embarrassed," Alan said. "I didn't know if they would believe me or if they could stop her."

Over the five years Alan said he reported his mother, he said nothing would happen. Alan would then say nothing was happening and then break down and tell DCS he was being molested and raped. He said he reported his mother to DCS at least a half-dozen times.

"It gets very depressing after a while to put your faith in somebody and expect them to keep you safe and then it doesn't happen over and over again," Alan said. "You get hurt by having trust over and over again and never having trust reward."

Alan, now 24, said it ended in 2003 when the children moved to supervised visits after his mother violated the court's visitation schedule.

In 2012, Alan and his younger sister decided to pursue criminal charges. They went to Murfreesboro police with some hesitation.

"On one level it's embarrassing, but on another it was nice to have someone take me seriously for once," Alan said.

Murfreesboro police put together an investigation that led to a 40-page indictment, including charges of rape, incest and abuse. Montgomery faces multiple felonies.

"They're really like my guardian angels to get in and get this done," Alan said.

State Rep. Sherry Jones wants DCS to answer why this took so long.

"It's something that should have been addressed 10 years ago," Jones said. "There is no reason for a child to be hurt and left in that same place and be hurt again and again and again."

DCS spokesperson Rob Johnson said his department cannot comment.

"Because the case involves details from so long ago and because it's still under criminal investigation, the department cannot comment at this time," Johnson said.
