  was just reading the topic "its time to say goodbye" and it makes me wonder what is it that makes people who have been here for a long time leave?

  Orange, I agree! Sometimes I read some posts & just think, 'my god, who are these people I am associating with?', especially when I get into a 'heated discussion' about politics! I keep coming back because there are some posters I do like, & of course the support from the general community.

  It's not about spending a lifetime "tuning in", or becoming one with the One. We already are It. There is nowhere to go, nothing to evolve to, nothing to become, nothing to earn or acquire. It's just about seeing and realizing what is here ALREADY.

  Hmm, I like that JT. Wouldn't that solve a lot of problems - if we just accepted the fact that we are here, & make the best of our short lives & common world. For myself, a realisation that Nature (capitalised!) and circular time is more valid than God and linear time has led to great peace. We live, we die, our offspring live and die - life goes on, & we are all a small part of 'LIFE' while we exist.

  Hi Love11, I'm glad you guys worked it out - you were very mature about the whole thing! My bile was rising just listening to the rubbish they were spouting & trying to force on your family. The hellfire thing made me laugh, though! I guess scientists are dumb cos they haven't discovered hell yet, either!

  There is no excuse for ignorance these days, though, & I feel sorry for those poor kids! I'd get them a copy of Bill Bryson's book 'a short history of nearly everything'. It is FANTASTIC for people who don't know much about science/evolution & is a pretty family-friendly author!

  this is my first post and here's my story.. my father became a witness long ago and my mom remained a lutheran.

  our attendance was sporadic due to mom's opposition.

  they knew our mom was lutheran and that she kept us from attending many meetings.

  Yes, I think it is true that they read out an announcement if you are an unbaptized publisher. It sounds like you & your family are not so entangled that you couldn't make a graceful exit?! Or fade?

  Okay, I don't know anything about this AT ALL (before EF jumps down my throat ) BUT it seems to me that people like to label things black & white - straight & gay. Oh good, there's a gene for gay. Now we can all get on with our lives. Why can't we just accept that we all lie on a spectrum from straight to gay (actually I hate that word straight - amend to hetero!), & some people lie on either extreme, & most of us are somewhere in the middle, according to genes & environment. That seems a pretty good, non-bigoted, & most importantly historically defensible position!

  Some of those pictures are awful - I can't get the image of Abraham offering Isaac up out of my head, & I'm 28!!! I loved the one of the 'sick world' - how can it get any sicker than the murder & sex (not to mention the field service!) depicted?!! Plus most of them are blatant ripoffs from the WTS. Dumb!

  Compassion for assembly attendees

  my love and i went to the big city today for the old port festival- the city blocks off several streets, there is live music, horrible fried foods on sticks, pasty looking mainers wearing shorts for the first time in nine months; all in all, a fun, casual day.

  the area where this is held is a few blocks from the civic center, where the jw's always hold their assemblies.. while waiting in line for food, my honey whispered that he saw a man wearing a name badge that read godly subjection.he had no idea what that signified.

  when i looked around, sure enough, there was a witness couple- both of them sweating in their assembly clothes, wearing dorky looking name badges, and looking really furtive and uncomfortable about being in the street festival.

  Hi Insomniac, lovely post! It's great to get that feeling of love & gratitude, even concern for dubs, instead of the constant hatred & wallowing I usually have! You're right - we should just feel sorry for them! Let them wear shorts!
