From Lurker to Newbie
by Silverleaf ini've been lurking on this board for a few months and realize i'm addicted so i finally decided to post.
i'm not a witness and never was - i was shunned before i could even begin to study because i asked too many hard questions and had the audacity to want to be engaged to jw.
the relationship ended when his 'loving family in the truth' told him they would shun him if he didn't break it off.

regret my "former" life as a Witness
by Richie indisassociating yourself slowly or quickly is a matter of perspective; think about it: you lose either way, i.e.
the witnesses will treat you like you've become part of the "bodysnatchers" of the world and no matter how you rationalize it, there is no honorable way out in the eyes of the witnesses.. i was df'd about 1.5 years ago (as they said that i left the organization so it was entirely my fault, but little do they know that their organization left me, as i appealed the gb's decision), and the sudden break-off of family and friends in the truth is always devastating to say the least - it's an emotional explosion which in your wildest dreams would normally never ever happen....i can now understand what death means, at least in the beginning....yes i was dead though living - even though when i went back to the meetings afterwards, i could feel the lonely emptiness, the non-existence of myself.
yet when by accident i would be gazing straight into the eyes of one of my (former) friends, he would just stare past me as if i didn't exist at all even though i attempted to smile at him in indicating respect to him....how convenient for them to ignore a fellow friend and instead make me feel like the lowest person on earth - but then..of course they were taught to respond in this manner to anyone who is df'd.... then i though to myself...what would happen when eventually i would be re-instated: yes, then after the announcement most would want to see me at the end of the meeting all happy and oh so loving and wanting to be my best friend all over again - in a heartbeat they'll change from zombies to angelic like mortal creatures of love.... for this very reason i cannot return to the meetings in the hope of wanting to be re-instated and have this hypocrisy again heaped upon me like tentacles.

Hi Richie,
I understand what your going through as well as everyone else on this board. You cant be a witness and come out of it unscathed. Do you have any witness family members ????

Here is a question for those who are either DF'd or DA'd. What do you do when you run into a JW at the store ? Do you turn your head and pretend you didn't see them ? Do you look them square in the eye and say hello? What about JW children ?? I've been vactioning and gone from town since I dA'd myself and haven't yet ran into anyone. I think I'll say hello. To turn my head and look away might send the message that I'm ashamed. I'd like to hear of any of your experiences.

Christmas Star = Satan?!
by reagan_oconnor ini was talking with my husband the other day about the jw's belief that the "christmas star" that guided the magi to christ was the doings of satan.
he didn't believe me; this is what i found in the "my book of bible stories" (copied verbatim from cd-rom).
who do you think made that new star to shine?

Hi Reagan,
I don't believe there is any scriptural backing to support the JW's ridiculous theory. If there were any scriptures they could use to support that idea THEY WOULD HAVE. They didn't because there aren't any. Am I the only one or did any of you find the whole star/ satan idea hard to swallow ? I'm glad you brought this up. I left the org. because a few things didn't add up. Since then , more and more of what didn't make since keeps coming up. Once again I scratch my head wondering why I ever joined an organization that taught such weird stuff and I never questioned it...... JURS -

WTBS CORP/ CONTROLLED BY NON JWS!!??
by JUSTAMOM injust pondering over a few things i have been reading.. 1.annual corporate meeting oct 6, 2001. with all the weird changes in the last year...red light alert!.
2. since it was the 337 voting members who had the biggest say so as to the changes last year in removing the gb...... (and they are non jws)....what else will they or have they done?.
the only reason they don't send the gb home, and it's not because they care about their elderly, is the fact without them as puppets up there, most jws might wake up and smell the kool-aid!.

hello everyone !
I'm a little bit confused. I always thought the Governing body and only the governing body voted.
To Seeker, How did these people become members able to vote ? and what did they vote on ?
Stock shares ??? I never knew their was stock. How did you guys find this out ? Do most JW's know this ? Perhaps the information was in a watchtower that I never read or mentioned in a meeting I missed.
Do these shareholders get to keep the money that they may make ?
Has anyone been able to look up the stock and see what its worth??

by Preston ini knew a presiding overseer in the congregation i attened who was possibly the strangest person i ever met.

Hi, I knew a very VERY strange family here in Colorado. Before I was baptized I met this family and they had loads of advice and information for me. They were so strange that other brothers and sisters rolled their eyes behind their backs. From this family I learned about the evil smurfs and how at one hall a child brought a smurf and it ran down the aisle. Everything was wrong and evil. I learned not to by garage sale stuff from them and that almost all programs on t.v. were bad. THE STRANGEST thing they ever said was about their son-inlaw, who quit attending meetings several years before. They kept their granddaughters hamster at their house because they were afraid he would kill it !!! He killed animals!! They said "Thats what happens when someone leaves Jehovah ." He was soooo strange and was also a alcoholic and abusive to his wife and child. Now get this. The mother told her daughter "you made your bed now lie in it." They thought everything would be all better if he would just come back to the kingdom hall. Also they had gone to the elders about their son-inlaw and he is not DF'd. He is not shunned. jurs

Part II of Survey! Please Respond Again.Thank's.
by Big Jim inthe first survey i asked how you were brought into the non-truth.
my next survey is along the same line, however what i would like to find out is on the average how many hours you spent in the field service and were you ever able to bring anyone into the non-truth via field service or via incidental witnessing.. and how long you were associated with the borg?.
thank you in advance for your input.

Why Are You Here?
by larc inthe question, "why are you here?
" is simple enough, and your answer may be straightforward.
however, when i asked that of myself, i find that my answer is pretty complicated.
-
jurs
Hi Larc,
I come here because there wasn't any other place to go. My friends who are not JW's are good listeners and are interested in hearing about JW beliefs ect. but I don't want to over do it and bore them to death. I left the org May 25th and it was rather sudden. I needed to talk to someone who understood and also wanted to talk. I can come here anytime and as often as I want and not worry about boring someone and feeling foolish about some of my former beliefs.
I also want to help others. Sometimes in the process I get a good laugh. ( my typing skills may even improve.)
