i am currently studying the topic of intelligent design (id).

basically the id theory is the revival of the teleological argument for the existance of a deity.

I think Delta is asking for rational discussion of the subject of ID. He seems to be making an honest investigation into the evidence and would like to discuss this. While many will agree "there is not God" or the bible contains "nonsense", wouldn't it be kind to Delta and JW lurkers to stick to the evidence regarding ID rather than make judgements of matters of faith?

I apologize to you both if I seem critical. I'm only suggesting we NOT be critical. Faith has value. It simply needs to find its place in the scientific world.

Hello Delta,

Good summary. I have read most of Bebe?s book and also a good one called ?The Case Against Darwin? (or close). I go along with ID to the extent that I agree that evolution?s contention that mutation and natural selection are NOT complete explanations of our present life systems.

However, complexity does not alone support intelligent design, although I personally believe in intelligence and design were involve. If we allow science to stick to science we can understand their resistance to

1 Conceding to ?intelligence? because that would require a possessor of intelligence which CANNOT be supported by any evidence or even a theory.

2 Complexity can be explained by means other than an intelligent designer.

3 Even defaulting to an intelligent designer does not substantiate an invisible Guy in the Sky. With our limited knowledge science could argue an AI system did it all without any real intelligence our even consciousness. It could also be argued that, rather than an invisible Guy in the Sky, the intelligent design was the result of a guy named Steve who had a great chemistry set and access to a Worm Hole and as a hobby made all conditions right for life and started the ball rolling. I realize this is preposterous but it is also as un-provable scientifically as the Guy in the Sky explanation.

Despite the above comments, I personally believe there was intelligent design. But that is my faith, not science.

I hope the two, faith and science, will work together some day. But for now the line is often blurred in the minds of those who think their faith is scientific.

Jt, Long time since we talked, I can relate to what you have said above. Especially the limits if not hindrances of religion. However, It's my opinion that neither Jesus (who you quote, "the kingdom is within") nor Siddhartha (Buddha) intended to produce a religion. I suspect they both were on the path you are one, and their mindless followers lost site of their teachers vision and made a religion out of it. But is suspect you have considered this too. Jst2laws

i just finished a visit with two elders.

i had actually contacted the head quarters and wanted to see how fast i can get a response from them.

i was impressed, from the time of my request to them in my house... two weeks.

They both learned a lot. But I felt we can all plant little seeds where we can. I know we are hurt by what happend to us, but we can still be kind to them, after all we need to be here for them when their eyes are opened.

This attitude is what puts us above even the most righteous among them. That was an act of love Pnut.

Last night at the book study 5 minutes spent on discussion about apostates

apostates want everyone to believe jehovah doesnt care about them and this was referred to as a satanic lie that apostates want you to believe and this satanic lie was even referred to in the prayer.

(i really dont know where they got this or what exactly caused the society to publish this but this is what was said in the "draw close to jehovah" book).

i was stunned by this dismal piece that i read in forbes magazine recently.

coming from the uk it is astonishing to me that an affluent nation as is the us, cannot provide better protection for the health and welfare of its citizens.

i was especially astonished by the fact that insurance companies withdraw their coverage while a person is sick and in need of help.

Tort reform will also help communities stop the hemorrhaging of doctors who have left the state due to ridiculous malpractice premiums they must pay. I lost my own FP because of this last year, and a brilliant surgeon in town moved out of state last year because her premiums went from $27k a year to $270k a year!!! They rose simply because a frivolous lawsuit was filed against her (and settled out of court by the insurance co., to save court costs).

Here in Florida it is a crisis. The surgeon who added titanium hardware to my son's broken leg told us that an associate doctor would do the follow-up care because he was leaving. We asked why. Malpractice premiums made a medical practice in Florida an unrewarding business. He was joining the Army. He preferred to take a moderate pay check as a VA doc.

The OBGYN's in town made a league and ALL have refused to pay malpractice insurance. They each pay into a fund and every patient signs an agreement that if there is a cause of complaint it will be reviewed by an arbitrator and if damages are awarded it will be from the fund with a cap on each claim. If the patient doesn't like it they can go to another community for care. I am in favor of this because the alternative is there will be NO OBGYN docs in town otherwise.

When Clinton pushed socialized medicine the retort was "Great, government medical care with the efficiency of the US Post Office and the compassion of the IRS." But maybe that worse case scenario is better than unaffordable health care or no health care at all.
