I love seeing the real person in their avatar. But realize many have to remain anonymous.
Except for Valis. His pics still scare me.

Valis,
Married to a lady named JOY, is wonderful. Its the lady who changed her name to Joyzabel that scares me.

HS,
When I first saw your post and it started out with "Steve" I thought you were naming me as the "most cynical" on the board.
As I read your comments I was embarassed to realize my initial reaction was rather 'cynical'.
Perhaps I too am not who I think I am.
Steve
Ps, I've been think of the view from you deck since you mentioned it in another thread this evening.
pontius pilate asked, and now i'm asking.
i've been reading many topics in here, now i am wondering... what is truth?
i'm both respectful and broadminded enough to allow for any other viewpoint, whether or not i agree.
Six,
Glad to see you are back into the discussion.
Sorry if I was hard on you.
As to "Truth". Just a thought. Truth is a form of duality: Black/white, hot/cold, good/evil, truth/falsehood. These are all descriptions our reality and the extreme opposites make it easy to think ABSOLUTES are a vital part of our reality. It seems that physics has run into some problems with absolutes. What goes on at the subatomic level is better described by insurance actuarial tables rather that absolutes. Thus Heisenberg got a noble prize for his "Uncertainty Principle" that better explains reality at the subatomic level. Einstein's two theories on relativity devastated Newtonian determinism and "certainty".
Now it seems even "truth" is 'relative', relative to the observer.
Using OldSouls example of "up", a traveler in the space shuttle often has to look "up" to see the earth through the shuttle windshield. But every time I look at the ground (earth) from a high position I am looking down, not up. Obviously, in this case, "UP" (as truth) is relative to our perspective. In a spiritual context, perhaps perception is more relevant than truth.
Just my opinion.

.... therefore, i want to devote the last years of my life (i am 72)to more positive, upbuilding activities such as giving a testimony to my faith through manifesting the fruits of the spirit, attempting to minister to the widows and orphans in their affliction, and to giving a positive witness through my writing.
Sabrina, I have no problem with how you feel. I'm simply not sure you understand why Penton, Jonnson, Rudd P. and R. Franz do NOT feel comfortable here. It is difficult to discuss religion or the Bible at JWD without auto/reactions from people legitimately injured by the WT. ANY expression of faith or belief is often attacked by well meaning, but somewhat cynical posters. As HillaryStep said above:
When what is perceived as a WTS attitude is expressed by an XJW, then duck for cover.
If you check the thread Leolaia reference on a prior page you will see how Penton was received last time. There are a few believers who continue to post here but they are often treated as crackpots or JW trolls. It takes the right kind of person to take that treatment and I applaud them. As to Penton, although retired, he has much on his table. He just published his new book and is already researching another he is co-authoring. Perhaps that is time best spent for the benefit of the XJW community as a whole. We are mostly a cynical, rational bunch of survivors here. Faith is very difficult to defended rationally in a debate. What you are hoping for has been tried but the environment here is not yet, and perhaps never will be, suited to discussions of spirituality. Its a good thread, Green. Don't feel bad about it. Penton is not a petty person who would take offense at anything you said. I just doubt he is inclined to participate where he has to justify his life discussions and religious beliefs Take care, Steve. edited to add a "NOT"

Many cynics do not think of themselves as cynical.
What if we name someone who thinks they are a the essence of moderation and tolerance?

think of this,,why does god have to be a person?
is it not because we impose our own manlike image of him?
why do we even think god has emotions like ours??

my son, jackson, was admitted to the hospital on monday.
he has asthma and had a severe enough attack that his lips began to turn blue.
at any rate, he hates hospitals, more to the point he hates ivs (can't say i blame him) as well as being awakened at 2:00 a.m. just to have blood pressure checked.
Cruzan and Tex,
If this keeps up we may be looking for property in your neck of the woods, Joy!
You need to know first what he has allergies to. Then look to moving away from those allergens. It has worked well for us to be on the coast of Florida. We thought we would not live through Salems bouts but then Seth eventually, while in hospital care, went into respirator arrest and ending up on life support in Atlanta's Chidlrens hospital.
Its all about allergens in the living environment. Start there, while continuing with aggressive immunologic therapy.
Tell the critter we said HI. And if the dog pooping in his bed room cheers him up I'm sure rubbing Buddha's belly helps too. If it would make a difference I will come and take a dump in his bedroom.
