Thanks Alfred. He must have missed that word. Actually, his reaction to the translation was hilarious as it (naturally) made no sense to him whatsoever. LOL!

I got one of my students (who's from Mexico) to translate it:
"There has been some gossip in the office with regards to a recent visit to the 25 Columbia theocratic complex. It seems to be that visitors might be the new complex owners. "Radio Macuto" says that the Society will still be on lease for 5 years and will keep moving services and offices to the adjacent building.
The objective of the project is to replace the theocratic offices with a luxury apartment complex, commercial mall and a apartment/hotel with SPA."

I was nearly dead a few times, and I saw nothing, like most people do. Does that mean I was viewing the nonexistent afterlife?
Oh come on....admit it. You simply fell asleep during the Watchtower study.
I truly don't have all the answers, but I'm open to the possibility that something survives the physical death.

It's a rather arrogant assumption of yours to think that those who may not believe in a spirit world have not given thought to the possiblity of one in the past. Maybe they did, but objectively looked at what science says about NDE and for lack of proof of a spirit world, decided that there is none? Did you ever consider that to be a possibility?
Absolutely I have, and I've gone down that path myself. However, the evidence that something might survive the physical death is not as flimsy as some would lie to assert and I've looked at both sides. While I may not share OldFlames view of any non-Christian burning in hell, there seems to be some fairly good evidence that something survives the physical death.
For anyone interested, here are a couple of links you may enjoy:

just in from Bethel said: So nonbelievers and skeptic questioners are the un-open ones?
??There is absolutely nothing wrong with being skeptical of NDE's, but I find it amazing how so many just put it down to drug hallucinations or the brain being starved of oxygen, without actually exploring the flip side of the coin. Many on this board have simply gone from one extreme belief (JW) to another (die-hard materialist) with absolutely no allowance made for anything inbetween. That was my point.

More anti-apostate rhetoric from the Watchtower - are they running scared?
by cedars inyes, the may 15th watchtower is now available for download from jw.org.. the final study article, on page 26, directs another salvo at apostates - and warns witnesses not to try arguing with them on the internet:.
indeed, we ought to move as far away from wrongdoing as possible and not see how close we can get to it without being overcome by sin.
for instance, we need to guard against succumbing to apostasy, a sin that would make us unfit to glorify god.

We are not benefited by trying to refute the arguments of apostates
Well, that part is actually true from their point of view. Because when a Witness talks to an 'apostate' about something like say the blood doctrine, it is fairly easy to prove that the scriptures the Borg uses to support this crap, has been completely taken out of context and was referring to dietary laws. Since they have nothing to retort with, they "are not benefited by trying to refute the arguments of apostates" simply because they can't.
And yes, they're running scared. They are losing a lot of members and there's no stemming the flow of those heading towards the exit door. Still viewing the world through the eyes of a Charles Dickens character, they haven't a clue how to deal with the problem so they just keep repeating "ignore the man behind the curtain", with the hope that someone might actually pay attention to them.

The Last Days and the Bible's Responsibility to Prove Itself
by freshcrepes inaccording to the watchtower's interpretation of the bible, we live in a time of unprecedented importance.
the current system is likely to end in our lifetime, and as the end draws closer the need to for the world to accept the bible becomes more urgent.. we are also in a unique time in that billions of people have the risk of eternal destruction upon death.
as i understand it, the billions who have and will die before armageddon will get an 'auto-resurrection' after armageddon (save a few in god's bad books) but those who die at armageddon are gone forever.

Number of JW's on antidepressant medication & unemployment
by biometrics inin the congregations i attended more than 60% of the people i knew were on some type of antidepressant medication.
this rate seems much higher than "worldly" people i know/knew.
or perhaps witnesses are just more open about this topic?.

Steve said: my impression was that many of the people who studied with the witnesses were even then significantly battered and bruised from their life up until that point. To then suggest the Watchtower caused what was already present is a bit rich in my opinion.
Not necessarily. For example: Mr. Depressed has struggled with depression and acceptance for most of his life. He drinks alot, is lonely and contemplates suicide. The Witnesses knock at his door and present him with a neatly written magazine or article that sums up how awful life in this world is and wouldn't he like to live in a world where there's no problems or depression? A study is soon started and the minute he enter the Kingdom Hall, he is love-bombed from all sides. For the first time in his life, he feels loved and accepted. There seems to be alot of meetings to attend, but everyone is so friendly, it's well worth it to have all these wonderful people in his life. Finding out that this is the only religion that God approves of is another great bonus and it makes him feel extra-special.
Baptism soon follows. And after that, something strange happens. People aren't falling all over him at the meetings any more and are tending to ignore him for the most part. Plus, he's finally found a full time job but he's really tired at the end of the day and he doesn't make it to all the meetings anymore. And that does get him some attention, but not in a good way. The elders visit him to remind him of everything that "Jehovah" requires of him and that includes being at all the meetings and out in Serve-Us every week. Anything less is not acceptable. He doesn't want to piss Jehovah off now does he?
Instead of being 'built up', this guy---who has long struggled with feelings of worthlessness and depression, suddenly starts retreating to the same dark place he was before the Witnesses called on him. He doesn't understand what's happened, but obviously the fault is with him and the thought of disappointing Jehovah overwhelms him. Maybe he starts to drink again. Booze and pills may not mix well, but he doesn't feel quite as bad about himself in this state. He misses more meetings which of course makes him feel even more guilty and worthless and where is Paradise on Earth anyhow?
He tries talking to the elders about how bad he feels, but the only advise they give him is to pray more and go out in Serve-Us more. If he would do more in Jehovah's work, he wouldn't feel depressed. And forget about going to a 'worldly' professional for any help. They're all under the control of Satan and would love to get their hooks into one of Jehovah's people. Medication is okay, but forget any one-on-one counselling. And so he continues on.
This is just one possible scenario. The religion may not be the sole cause of someone's depression, but they sure as hell tend to contribute to it. JWFacts has a good link on the subject too: http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/mental-issues.php

When will they merge the BS, TMS, WTS, T into one meeting ?
by mP init seems to me with all the times being cut from talks, you could save further time and simply smash all the meetings into one on the weekend.
this would also save the need for those extra kingdom hall songs, and one trip to the kh.
with all these savings, jws could easily double their ministry..

I doubt that will ever happen simply because they don't like the R&F to have too much free time on their hands. Imagine having several nights in a row free where you didn't have to go for 2 hours of brainwashing. That could lead to all kinds of horrible things like thinking for yourself, spending time doing things you actually enjoy or getting to the point where you can't even be bothered going on Sunday.
