  Were your parents a different religion before JDubism?

  i know an awful lot here are 3rd and 4th generation - but were there any who's parents become dubs as adults?

  i'd be interested to here what it was that made an adult become a jw when not brought up that way?.

  i'll relate my parents experience shortly...but its something i;ve been thinking about a lot.

  Hi:

  My dad and his family were Catholic. By the time I came along I do not think my Dad was really practicing his faith all that much. My Mom was a very devout Missouri Synod Lutheran. She taught Sunday School and I even attended a Lutheran School for one year.

  Then my grandmother (maternal) died unexpectedly. My mother became very depressed and according to my non-JW relatives suicidal. Not long after this, my mother's best friend from high school showed up and had converted to the JWs. My Mom bought it hook, line, and sinker.

  Then my Dad and his parents and one of my Dad's sisters became JWs. They were all nominally Catholic. My Lutheran relatives wanted none of it.

  I left the JWs in 1996 and went back to the Lutheran Church. Then in 2003 my wife and I entered the Catholic Church.

  my bethel servise left me seriously depressed!!!!

  i auxilary pioneered for a year, then i regular pioneered for 2 years while serving as a ministerial servant.

  then i served at bethel for 3 years.

  while at bethel i worked harder then i have my hole life.

  So what do biochemists think of Michael(first name right?) Behe?

  Well, Behe's whole irreducible complexity ideas are just wrong and it is fairly easy to demonstrate that they are wrong. A much better perspective that is more scientifically accurate in my opinion was written by Catholic Molecular Biologist Kenneth Miller a professor at Brown University. His book "Finding Darwin's God" is excellent and I highly recommend it. He and Michael Behe debate on a fairly regular basis too.

  Is becoming a witness the right thing for me

  i've been struggling for quite some time now about continuing my exploration of the jehovah witness faith.

  i am a "cradle" catholic and have been very involved with the church.

  i started to become disillusioned several months back with all of the tradition, habits, and teachings of the church--which i began to seriously doubt.

  My Story..... Need advice on reinstatement Letter.

  i've been a member of the site for a month, but have been reading the posts for a lot longer, however this is my first post.

  i was raised a j-dub by my mother (my father wasn't religious) with my sister and brother.

  i was pretty much convinced by my dub friends, bible study conductor, and mother that i should get baptized when i was 15 and decided to go for it.

  Hi:

  I would be concerned with how much attention your wife will get from your JW family if you go down this road. You may be giving your family false hopes about her. Is she prepared to take the constant offers that the JWs will make to study with them? Also, are you prepared to attend all of the meetings at the Kingdom Hall while being shunned for at least 6 months to a year while they decide if you are worthy of being reinstated?

  I guess, for me, I could not do it.

  no, i don't have this article yet, it will appear in the sep 1, 2006 wt.

  it may even be a wt study article.. in the august 15 watchtower, the box "in our next issue" has three forthcoming articles, and one of them is "when a loved one leaves jehovah".

  of interest, it's not when a loved one leaves the society, it's jehovah.. will keep you posted.

  but i don;t see anything about folks who just leave the org, unless they are saying leaving the org is = to leaving god himself

  The above is exactly what JWs believe.

  I think the JWs are encouraging the parents of these young ones who leave to move further away from their kids who leave. They tell them to get more active in the org as a way to feel better about the situation in the hopes that they will be better able to help their child when they return to the org. My questions is how can this happen if the parents cannot speak to the child under pain of discipline from the congregation as well?

  Also, I love the way in which they make this the fault of the person who leaves the org. It is just the same old stuff.

  I have a feeling my JW Mom will read this if she has not already done so and it will contribute significantly to her continuing belief that she failed as a parent since none of her kids are active JWs now.

  Think about how crazy it sounds for them to say that someone has gone off the deep end by donating something that could save a person's life!!!!!!!!!!

  Why would anyone want to go back to that type of atmosphere????

  How many ex-jws move out of town to start over?

  i was wondering how common it is for ex-jws to relocate after leaving the borg in order to escape the bad memories of being in a cult, or to break contact with cult members.. i have wanted to move far away for as long as i can remember--even as a kid--for this purpose.

  various life circumstances have delayed that--long story--but mr. rebel8 and i are thinking of moving within the next few years.

  i am the one who's most interested in moving to a completely different type of place--different culture, different climate, different everything!

  My wife and I both agree that the best decision we ever made was to leave LA where we were well known as JWs and move out of state. It really did help us to rebuild our lives.
