I didn't know what a JW was, until I fell for one
by headoverheels inwhen i fell for him i was completely unaware of his upbringing as a jw and only became aware once he decided to leave a few months back.
being raised without much of a religious basis, besides the typical western christian exposure, i have researched, read, attended groups, read in this forum, to try to better understand him, and jws, but i am feeling at a loss here.
he just recently left the jws and now i am experiencing this struggle with him; i am wondering how much of our problems can be contributed to this transition.

A Question About Paradise Earth?
by sacolton inwe've all seen illustrations of jehovah's happy people living in a utopia lifestyle sharing baskets of fruit, wearing preppy clothing and everyone has a pet grizzly bear or shark, but what about natural disasters?
earthquakes, hurricanes, volcanoes, flash floods, hail, lightning, blizzards, etc are just going to cease to exist?
everyday will be a beautiful 76 degrees with a calm cool breeze from the north?

For JW'S and anyone else: Questions to Ask Yourself.
by Mall Cop inis it not likely had you been born in cairo you would be a muslim and, as hundreds of millions of people do, would believe that "there is no god but god and muhammed is his prophet?.
if you had been born in calcutta would you not in all probability be a hindu and, as hundreds of millions of people do, accept the vedas and the upanishads as sacred scriptures and hope sometime in the future to dwell in nirvana?.
is it not probable that, had you been born in jerusalem, you would be a jew and, as millions of people do, believe that yahweh is god and that the torah is god's word?.

ring of truth
by sayitsnotso inmany argue that the truth will always be the truth because of core beliefs: no hellfire, no trinity, no immortal soul, adam and eve lost paradise (and thus paradise on earth will be restored and the need for the ransom), the issue of universal soverignty, last days, loving brotherhood, using god's name.. most people are attracted to the truth becuase of at least one or more of these beliefs and refer to these often as the 'ring of truth'.
this makes it very easy to then shrug of any of the past mistakes or any current teaching that is hard to understand or believe.
i myself am struggling with this.

Help with Luke 20:35
by frigginconfused ini looked this up in older posts but i still dont get it.
it seems to be referring to those resurected on earth because of its context with the sadduccees.
but it doesnt make for a paradise anyone would wat to live in.

The earth survive forever?
by sayitsnotso ini can understand many argue that scientifically it is impossible for the earth to remain forever (sun dies).
what is wrong with the argument that god could refuel the sun?.
