  Field Service Tricks

  does any one remember this one?

  as we live in the "great white north" the weather does not always co-operate with us and sometimes we would have to go outdoors for field service in the winter months.

  so i remember my father giving the congregation some tips when the householder would open the door!

  I had a whole bevy of tricks in my repartee:

  - the fake doorbell ring (engage your partner in eye contact while ringing to help pull it off)

  - working by myself ("Don't worry, I can be the one who works by himself" - heh heh)

  - selecting a fellow partner who was equally disinterested to work with

  - doing fake return visits (pick a house in neighbourhood, see that someone wasn't home and call on it as an RV)

  - dumping mags at the old folks home

  - street witness for 15 mins at 7 AM to jump start time and have breakfast at 7:30 (after going to the bank machine etc to kill more time)

  What wasted time. What apalls me that is that JWs think that they register somewhere on the world recognition scale. Really, all I've ever heard is the odd JW joke on a sitcom.

  here in jamaica queens new york, one of the congregations is named, rochdale congregation.

  my brother-in-law went to the meeting at this congregation this past sunday and he saw that notices from the wts have been posted on the bulletin board which officially say that the wts is moving all printing operations upstate to either patterson or wallkill.

  this is not a permanent access but a temporary one.

  Francois,

  Is that the April 1972 WT? Are you serious that the article is not on the CD-ROM? Is it on any of the editions? I will be going to my parents house and I can make a photocopy of the article for scanning.

  This is the kind of thing that floors me most... revisionist history. I'd love to go over, find the article, then direct my relatives to look at the CD-ROM.

  FINALLY stood up to my father re: religion!

  as you all may remember, i left the organization 4 years ago - never df'd, never dissassociated, just left.

  my parents initially tried everything they could to get me to come back but to no avail.

  they've never really shunned me because we still talk on the phone, but seeing that we live on the opposite coasts, i've only seen them once in 4 years.

  I have to say, I really liked the line of reasoning you used. The VIN analogy was perfect to strike a note with your dad. The "ruining the earth"/take everything literally angle was also simply brilliant.

  Meetings in hiding places

  if one day the government would put an end to jw meetings, how do you think the watchtower would get organized to keep meetings going?

  they told us that meetings would be held in houses or in secret places.

  i dont know of any house big enough to accommodate 80+ people.

  jws your comment just reminded me of that recently posted article that warned the brothers not to post the literature on their websites as they would be violating copyright law. If anyone in or out of the org can't see that the reason they don't publish on the Net is that $$$$$ would be lost, then they are absolutely fooling themselves. Whatever happened to "you received freely, so give freely?"
