There was a local elder that was a police officer - he's retired now. Upon retirement he was one of 4 Deputies of a large city. Never carried a gun - nobody complained.

The "keystone" of the Watchtower.
by thinker inrecently someone here wrote a thread which basically said that if a certain gb member had only spoken up and proclaimed that 1914 was a proven incorrect date, then the whole watchtower organization would have crumbled.
1914 was claimed to be the essential doctrine of the wt.
i humbly disagree.

I am glad that the carrot of "Paradise" that is dangled in front of Witnesses has been addressed. I often reasoned when struggling to come to terms with being a Dub that most of them wouldn't preach door-to-door were it not for the big reward they were to receive. If we had a responsibility to our Creator to please him and serve him out of indebtedness, but there was no Paradise at the end of things, how many would be serving?
I concluded: Not Many.
It floored me how much emphasis was placed on selling converts on Paradise (how long did we use that red "Live Forever" book?) and not responsibility in some greater court-case being tried between the Creator and Satan. That's when I came to realize that it was all salesmanship and nothing more...

I got 24 as a Canadian... looked at the answers afterwards and excused myself on 3 or 4 that were too "British" for my liking. I missed a couple that should've been obvious (ie. 5 toes on a foot, 64 squares on a chess board).

All bookstudies at the KH???
by Intuit39 ini know of a congregation on the east coast that is having all bookstudies meet at the kingdom hall!
that's right--no bookstudies in private homes, at least for now.... has anyone else heard of this?
and what could be the reason?

Ahhh yes... I almost forgot about one of the only things I liked about the meetings... the bookstudy when we would have cake and goodies afterward. One brother where we had the study had coffee at least once a month, plus he had a pool table. We'd end the study in about 45 minutes and then would retire to the pool table... ah lovely!

Now we know where YouKnow has been - getting his site up!
In all seriousness, has anyone investigated the domain registration a little further? Seems awfully strange...

Your Cheesiest/Silliest/Strangest WTScans
by Stephanus ini've been enjoying scanning bits and pieces of ruth's old 'tower magazines.
many of us will have old copies of the literature lying around, so why not scan something that's particularly meaningful to you?
here's my offering to start the ball rolling.

The Austin Powers one takes the cake... the movie was a bit wishy-washy and inconsistent, but "Hard Knock Life" had me rolling on the floor!

Ministry School or Lets play pretend
by Beans inlooking back at the kingdom ministry school it really seemed like a childish game of lets play pretent.
somebody gives you an outline and sisters and brothers would act it out, like any of this stuff really ever happened.
you never saw anybody act out the door slam or any vulgar comments, now that would have made it interesting eh!

Actually, when I was asked to do demonstrations, I often had the householder politely refuse at the end. It caught people off guard sometimes, but was alot more realistic as far the kind of results one could expect.
By having fairy tale demos where the householder accepts all the time, it teaches publishers that when they don't get success, it must've been something they did wrong - that they needed to become more effective.

Wow... I too am very surprised that reading of the WT is put on par with reading the Bible. Talk about confusing people.
They really seem to be tightening up on the content of the talks. There is so little room now for research and discussion on topics - everything is so canned. Talk about boring.
